The “22 airports” headline describes a winter route cut, not a current list of airports Wizz Air has stopped serving. The figures come from a travel-news report about the winter 2023/2024 schedule, covering flights from November 2023 through March 2024. That period ended more than two years ago. Before you change a trip or assume an airport has lost service, check the specific route on the airline’s current timetable. The list is a useful starting point for that check, not a verdict.
What the original report claims
TravelTrade.today reported that Wizz Air’s winter network change affected 22 airports across 16 countries and 78 routes. The page carries a publication date of October 17, 2025, even though it describes a schedule that ran from November 2023 to March 2024. Those counts are the publication’s own figures. They have not been matched against Wizz Air timetables for either period.
The report’s own numbers do not reconcile. The named airports total 23, not 22, and they fall into 15 countries, not 16. Neither the headline count nor the country count is explained. Treat the list as a set of named claims rather than a confirmed inventory.

Why the dates change the answer
A winter schedule is set for a defined season. A cut that applied from November 2023 to March 2024 tells you what the airline’s network looked like in that season. It says nothing definitive about the 2026 winter timetable, and the 2023/2024 period is long over. The report’s October 2025 publication date does not change the season it describes.

What has changed since
On September 10, 2026, Wizz Air announced a staged restoration of 12 routes and 49 weekly services to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia over the winter season. The release names Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Jeddah, and Amman, and states that the restored services would provide 470,000 winter seats. These are the airline’s own figures for that announcement and that season.
The announcement does not correct the 2023/2024 list item by item. Dubai, Jeddah, Amman, and the Saudi destinations do not appear among the 22 airports in the report. Abu Dhabi appears on both, so it is the clearest overlap. For any other airport on the older list, the announcement neither confirms nor rules out service.

Route pause or airport exit?
The distinction matters most for personal budgeting. A route pause affects one origin and destination pair on certain dates. An airport exit would mean no Wizz Air service at all from that airport. Katowice Airport’s route information shows the difference. Wizz Air flights from Katowice to Varna are listed as available through October 22, 2026, then suspended until June 6, 2027. That is a seasonal pause on one route, while the airport continues to appear in the airline’s network.
| Situation | What it means | Example from the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Seasonal route pause | One airport pair is not sold for a defined window, then resumes | Katowice to Varna, suspended from October 22, 2026 until June 6, 2027 |
| Route restoration | A previously cut route or service returns for a season | Staged return of 12 routes and 49 weekly services to Jordan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, announced September 10, 2026 |
| Airport-level exit | No Wizz Air service from the airport on any route | No current source confirms this for any airport on the 2023/2024 list |
How to check whether your route is operating
- Write down the exact airport pair, direction, and travel dates. “Katowice” is not enough; “Katowice to Varna, outbound on a specific date” is the unit that gets cut.
- Search that pair on Wizz Air’s own website for your dates. If no flight appears, the route is not being sold for those dates.
- Check your booking confirmation and the airline’s email or app notifications for schedule-change notices. Save a copy of any change notice with its date.
- Cross-check the departure airport’s published route information, as Katowice Airport does, to confirm the airline’s listed services.
- If your flight has changed, confirm your options with the airline before acting. Refund and rebooking rights depend on the airline’s conditions and on consumer rules in the country where you depart, so look those up rather than assuming.
Protecting your budget if a route changes
- Do not book a separate onward ticket or hotel that depends on a connecting flight until the first leg is confirmed on the airline’s own booking.
- Keep the booking reference, dated screenshots of the timetable, and any change notice together in one place.
- Check whether your travel insurance covers airline schedule changes. Policy wording varies, and claims often require documentation of the change.
- Compare rebooking against a refund, including the cost of any hotel nights, transfers, or tours that a date change would disrupt.
- Note the deadline for requesting a change or refund, which is set by the airline’s terms rather than by the date of the original report.
For a winter trip, treat the 2023/2024 list as history. Check the exact route you plan to fly on the airline’s current schedule, and budget for a change only after you have confirmed what the airline is offering for that route.
