The sources cited here do not establish whether the hotel is still operating or whether a later application has been lodged as of October 2026.
What was approved—and what was not?
The City of Vincent council approved a Local Development Plan (LDP) for the Charles Hotel area on August 20, 2024. The council record lists properties at 501, 503, 503B, 505–509 and 511–513 Charles Street, 4 Carrington Street, and 118–122 Eton Street in North Perth. City of Vincent council record
An LDP sets planning guidance for future development, including matters such as uses, heights and setbacks. It is distinct from a development application: a later, site-specific proposal must be submitted and assessed before particular building or demolition work can proceed. Angelkov described the LDP as a guide to what could be built in the future, not as an approved final design. PerthNow, August 30, 2024
What did the owner say about the pub’s future?
In its August 30, 2024 report, PerthNow quoted Angelkov saying: “At this stage we’re happy to carry on running our hotel and running our business and we’ll see what our future holds.” He also said there were no plans to demolish the hotel “at the moment.”

PerthNow reported that no development application had been “prepared, lodged or approved” at that time. Angelkov said a proposal would need approval before anything could be knocked down. These statements describe the position reported in August 2024; they do not confirm the hotel’s operating status or the application status today.
What might the broader plan allow?
PerthNow described the LDP as covering 11 sites across parts of Charles, Carrington and Eton streets, spanning 11.3 hectares and owned by Bridgeton Pty Ltd. Its August 22, 2024 report described six development parcels with possible building heights from two to eight storeys. Those are planning-framework possibilities reported in 2024, not a confirmed final building design, a construction schedule or proof that any particular use will be built. Angelkov said he would prefer a future proposal to include a tavern, hotel or suitable live-music facility, but his comment was not an announced commitment to provide one. PerthNow, August 30, 2024
How would a future development application be assessed?
Residents raised concerns about traffic, parking and the scale of the proposed development. PerthNow reported City officers saying a future application would need a traffic management plan and could be refused if it did not show that the surrounding road network could accommodate additional traffic. That describes a future assessment consideration, not the outcome of an application for the hotel site. PerthNow, August 22, 2024

A site-specific proposal would give decision-makers and the public details to assess, including its uses, building heights and layout, traffic effects, parking and how any hospitality or live-music function would be addressed. The LDP approval alone does not answer those questions.

No connection is established by the available records. A Western Australian Planning Commission listing reports approval on June 10, 2026, for 52 apartments in a five-storey building at 407–409 Charles Street. That address is different from the Charles Hotel LDP properties, and the available sources do not identify the apartment proposal as the hotel’s development application.
