But do not delete it before finishing open orders, refunds, returns, disputes, or safety complaints. Temu says account deletion can take up to seven business days, and logging in during that period can cancel the request.
The decision is not proof that Temu is malware or that every product is unsafe. It is a practical choice about privacy, financial records, account security, and how much risk and friction you are willing to accept from an online marketplace.

Should you delete your Temu account?
Delete it now if you have stopped using Temu, do not need your order history or credits, or are uncomfortable with the information Temu says it collects and shares. Deletion can also help remove an easy route to promotional notifications and impulse purchases.

If you still need Temu occasionally, a middle-ground approach may be enough: remove saved cards, unsubscribe from marketing, disable notifications, use a unique password, and avoid keeping the app installed.
Why some shoppers choose to leave Temu
Temu collects more than basic account details
According to Temu’s U.S. privacy policy, the service may collect information such as:
- Email addresses or phone numbers used for login
- Account and profile details
- Purchase and transaction information
- Payment-related information handled during payment processing
- Customer-support communications
- Device information and service-usage data
- General location information
- User-generated content, where applicable
- Information supplied by social-login providers
The policy also describes sharing or processing involving service providers, affiliates, professional advisers, authorities, regulators, and other parties for operational, legal, security, fraud-prevention, and safety purposes.

That is different from proving that Temu misused every customer’s information. The defensible conclusion is narrower: Temu’s own policy documents a broad set of data categories and uses, and deleting an unused account can reduce the amount of ongoing account-linked activity.
Marketplace compliance and safety concerns are documented—but limited
In September 2025, the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice announced that Whaleco, Temu’s operator in the United States, agreed to a $2 million civil penalty and injunction resolving allegations involving the INFORM Consumers Act. The allegations concerned seller information and tools for reporting suspicious, stolen, counterfeit, or unsafe goods. See the FTC case page and the Department of Justice announcement.

This is evidence of marketplace-compliance problems. It is not proof that every Temu listing is counterfeit or dangerous.
Consumer Reports said in February 2026 that its evaluation of more than 100 baby-product listings across four major marketplaces found gaps that could allow products prohibited by law or company policy to be listed. That supports extra caution with high-risk products, especially children’s products, chargers, cosmetics, safety equipment, and anything requiring reliable regulatory compliance. It does not establish that every Temu product is unsafe. Read the organization’s marketplace-safety findings for the scope of the evaluation.
Promotions can make spending harder to control
Temu’s discounts, notifications, games, countdowns, and promotional offers may make it easier to buy items you did not plan to purchase. If the problem is impulse spending rather than privacy, account deletion can create useful friction. Uninstalling the app and unsubscribing from marketing may accomplish part of the same goal without immediately closing the account.
What to do before deleting Temu
Account deletion is easier when financial and support matters are already complete. Use this checklist:
- Finish active orders. Wait until deliveries arrive and inspect anything that may need a return.
- Complete refunds, returns, reshipments, disputes, and chargebacks. Deleting first could make order details or support communication harder to retrieve.
- Save your records. Download or screenshot order confirmations, invoices, tracking details, refund confirmations, support conversations, and open-claim information.
- Document credits and coupons. Temu’s deletion information reviewed here does not promise that credits, coupons, or promotional balances survive deletion. Treat them as potentially inaccessible unless Temu confirms otherwise.
- Remove saved payment cards. Temu’s support instructions say the app uses Edit beside a linked card followed by Delete card; on Temu.com, the option is Remove. See Temu’s card-removal instructions.
- Review saved addresses and phone numbers. Remove information you no longer want stored.
- Check subscriptions or recurring arrangements. Cancel or document anything that could generate another charge.
- Change reused passwords. If your Temu password was used elsewhere, change those other accounts immediately.
- Check your sign-in method. If you used Google, Apple, Facebook, or another provider, use that same method when accessing the Temu account. Temu explains this limitation in its sign-in support guidance.
These are prudent preparation steps, not all mandatory requirements in Temu’s deletion instructions.

How to delete your Temu account
In the Temu app
- Open the Temu app and sign in.
- Open the account area, usually labeled You or shown with an account icon.
- Open Settings.
- Choose the account or privacy option for deleting the account.
- Review the prompts and submit the deletion request.
- Save the confirmation or take a screenshot.
- Expect to be logged out automatically.
Temu’s current support page says the account will be deleted within seven business days. It also says that logging back in before the deadline can cancel the deletion. If you want the account gone, do not sign in during that window. See Temu’s official account-deletion instructions.

On Temu.com
- Sign in at Temu.com.
- Open your account page.
- Find the account or privacy settings.
- Select the account-deletion option.
- Follow the prompts and save the confirmation.
- Avoid logging in while the request is pending.
Labels and menu locations can vary by country, website state, and app version. Temu’s support page currently describes following the deletion link and prompts; do not assume an older menu path will look identical.
If the deletion option is missing
Try these steps in order:
- Confirm that you are signed into the correct account.
- Try both the current app and Temu.com.
- Update the app through your device’s official app store.
- Try a private browser window or temporarily disable browser extensions.
- Use the original Google, Apple, Facebook, or other social-login method.
- Contact Temu through its Support Center.
- Use Temu’s privacy options to submit a deletion request if the normal account route fails. Its privacy policy says users may request deletion through those options.
Keep the ticket number, request date, screenshots, and confirmation emails. If you cannot access the account, recover access where possible; Temu may require identity verification. Do not assume support will erase every record immediately.

No—not necessarily, and not immediately. Temu’s privacy policies say information may be retained as necessary for service provision, customer support, accounting, legal obligations, fraud prevention, security investigations, complaints, and legal claims. Its European policy also describes retaining some information after account deletion to respond to lawful requests and protect Temu, its customers, and its property. Deletion may not remove:
- Messages already delivered to your email inbox
- Browser cookies or cached app data on your devices
- Records held by your bank, card network, digital wallet, or payment provider
- Information retained under a legal, security, fraud-prevention, or claims-related exception
- Deidentified or aggregated information where covered by the applicable policy
- Information already shared with third parties that follow separate retention rules
Deleting the app is also not the same as deleting the account. The account-deletion request must be submitted through Temu’s account or privacy process.

What to do after submitting deletion
- Wait through the seven-business-day period.
- Do not log in if you do not want to cancel the request.
- Uninstall the Temu app.
- Clear Temu cookies and site data from your browsers.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails and texts that continue to arrive.
- Monitor your bank and card accounts for unexpected or unauthorized charges.
- Change passwords reused with Temu.
- Revoke unnecessary connected-app access through Google, Apple, Facebook, or another sign-in provider.
- Keep evidence for unresolved refunds, disputes, or safety complaints.
Temu says marketing preferences can be changed separately and that users can continue using the service after opting out. Therefore, unsubscribing is a legitimate alternative for someone who wants fewer promotions but is not ready to delete the account.
Important exceptions
Product safety problems
Deleting your account does not solve a dangerous-product problem. Stop using the item, check for recalls, preserve photos and order details, contact Temu, and seek a refund or other remedy. Temu publishes recall notices, such as this recall notice directing consumers to stop using a product and contact support.
Unauthorized charges
Contact your card issuer or payment provider promptly. Account deletion is not a substitute for reporting fraud, disputing a transaction, or replacing compromised payment credentials.
Guest orders
If you checked out as a guest, preserve the order ID and contact support separately. Account deletion may not cover guest-checkout records in the same way as a registered account.
Delete, limit, or keep?

| You are considering high-risk products | Evaluate seller information, safety documentation, recalls, and alternatives independently; deleting the account does not replace product-safety action. |
What to use instead
Amazon, Walmart, Target, local retailers, and manufacturer-direct stores may be better fits when returns, documentation, authenticity, warranties, or customer service matter more than the lowest price. None is automatically a privacy solution or risk-free: large marketplaces also collect data and may host third-party sellers. Choose based on the product’s risk, the seller’s identity, return protections, and available safety information—not only price.
No paid service is needed to delete a Temu account. Be cautious of third-party “account deletion” services that request your password or payment details.
