The case, Yelp Inc. v. Google LLC, remained active in discovery as of the latest docket records reviewed, dated September 30, 2026. A judge has allowed Yelp’s amended tying claim to proceed past a motion to dismiss, but no final finding that Google violated antitrust law has been made.
Why Yelp is suing Google
Yelp’s lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California as a civil antitrust action, docketed as Yelp Inc. v. Google LLC, No. 24-cv-06101. Yelp alleges that Google abused its monopoly in general search to dominate local search and local-search advertising markets. Those are allegations made by Yelp, not facts established by a final court judgment. Yelp’s June 2026 Form 10-Q describes the company’s claims and requested relief.
Yelp says it seeks a declaratory judgment, damages, restitution and injunctive relief. The requested injunction would address the alleged past conduct and seek to prevent future anticompetitive behavior. The court has not awarded those remedies.
What the judge decided—and what it means
On October 22, 2025, Judge Susan van Keulen denied Google’s partial motion to dismiss Yelp’s amended tying claim. The order said: “The Court finds that Yelp has plausibly alleged express coercion via Google’s ToS.” The order and docket show this was a pleading-stage decision: the court concluded that Yelp had alleged enough for that claim to proceed, including certain continuing conduct. It did not find that Yelp’s allegations were true, decide that Google was liable, or resolve the case after a trial.

Current status and schedule
The case remained active in discovery in the docket records available through September 30, 2026. On September 10, 2026, the court modified a discovery deadline after the parties said they needed additional time for technically complex, bespoke structured-data pulls. The stipulated order moved the deadline for other-party document and data production from September 9 to October 28, 2026; it did not address the merits of Yelp’s claims. The federal docket also records a September 30 order concerning disclosure and use of discovery material from non-party Apple Inc.
Yelp’s June 2026 Form 10-Q said trial was then scheduled to begin in September 2028 and that the company could not predict the lawsuit’s ultimate outcome. That is the schedule reported in the filing, not a guarantee that the date will remain unchanged. The docket activity reviewed through September 30, 2026 does not establish a later trial date.

What the case does not establish yet
- The lawsuit states Yelp’s claims; filing it does not prove that Google engaged in illegal conduct.
- The October 2025 order allowed an amended tying claim to proceed past a motion to dismiss; it was not a final ruling on liability.
- The discovery orders govern evidence production and handling, not whether Yelp or Google should win.
