Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles paused production of the electric ID. Buzz and combustion-powered Multivan at its Hannover-Stöcken plant for five days beginning October 20, 2025. The company attributed the temporary scheduling measure to changed market demand; it was not evidence that either model or the factory had been permanently discontinued.
What happened at Volkswagen’s Hannover plant?
Production stopped for five days, from October 20 through October 24, 2025, at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Hannover-Stöcken site, according to NDR’s report. The affected lines built two vehicles: the electric ID. Buzz and the combustion-powered Multivan.
Volkswagen described the reason as changed market demand. Reporting at the time placed the decision against a weakening European light commercial vehicle market and electric-vehicle demand growing more slowly than Volkswagen had expected. The company’s stated rationale was about production planning in response to the market, not a disclosed sales shortfall for either individual model.
Why did VW pause production?
A Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles spokesperson, quoted by electrive via Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, said the company needed “the necessary flexibility to adapt production planning to changed market demand.” NDR likewise reported the changed-demand explanation from Volkswagen.

Electrive also reported that the stoppage followed other scheduling adjustments at the Hannover facility: an extended summer plant holiday and a return to the standard 35-hour working week after a period of 37.5-hour weeks. Those weekly-hour figures describe employees’ scheduled working time, not vehicle output. They provide context for production adjustments but do not establish that the plant was closing permanently.
Did Volkswagen discontinue the ID. Buzz or Multivan?
No conclusion of permanent cancellation follows from this five-day interruption. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ company information in 2026 continued to identify Hannover as a production location for both the ID. Buzz and Multivan. That later information supports treating the October 2025 stoppage as temporary, but it does not establish the precise restart date or quantify production after the pause.

What the reports do—and do not—establish
- Established: The planned interruption lasted five days, beginning October 20, 2025, at the Hannover-Stöcken plant and affected production of the ID. Buzz and Multivan.
- Established: Volkswagen cited changed market demand; contemporary coverage described weaker European light commercial vehicle demand and slower-than-expected EV growth as market context.
- Not established: The reports do not give model-specific sales compared with Volkswagen’s internal targets, an exact restart date, or a measured change in output after the pause.
Because the event was a dated scheduling decision, it should not be read as a statement of Volkswagen’s current production status in October 2026.
