Ubisoft workers planned a three-day strike for February 10–12, 2026, over restructuring and cost-cutting plans, pressure on teams, pay, and changes to work organization. Solidaires Informatique representative Marc Rutschlé put participation at at least 1,200; Ubisoft was later reported as giving a figure of 538. The available reporting does not establish a single independently verified final count.

Why did Ubisoft workers strike?

Workers’ reported grievances went beyond layoffs alone. They included restructuring and cost-reduction plans, pressure and understaffing, limited or absent pay increases, and work-organization changes, including a return-to-office mandate. These concerns were reported by Engadget and GameSpot.

GameSpot quoted Rutschlé, a Solidaires Informatique representative, saying teams were under pressure and often understaffed, and criticizing the company’s continuing cost-reduction and layoff plan. The same report relayed worker concerns about several years without raises or only small increases. These are reported worker and union-side criticisms, not independently established findings about every Ubisoft team.

How many employees went on strike?

Reported figure Attribution What is established
At least 1,200 Solidaires Informatique representative Marc Rutschlé, as reported by GameSpot A union-side estimate; not an independently verified final total.
538 Ubisoft, as reported by Nintendo Life A company-reported figure; the report does not reconcile it with the union-side estimate.

The two figures should be treated as competing attributed estimates, not as confirmed counts for the full three-day action. The available reports do not explain whether different counting methods or measurement times account for the difference.

Ubisoft separately reported 16,590 employees at the end of March 2026, around 1,200 fewer than a year earlier. That is a company-wide year-over-year headcount comparison, not a strike-participation figure. Ubisoft discussed the reduction in the context of cost-cutting efforts and voluntary attrition in its FY2025-26 results.

When and where did the strike take place?

The action was planned for February 10–12, 2026. Reports described most of the activity as taking place in France, with additional participation at Ubisoft Milan. Coverage reported the strike as continuing through February 12; the sources do not provide an independently verified day-by-day tally.

What did Ubisoft say?

In a statement reproduced by GameSpot on February 12, Ubisoft said its January 21 transformation was intended to strengthen team autonomy and creativity within its Creative Houses and support the group’s long-term sustainability. It acknowledged that work-organization changes were generating strong feelings, said it had held discussions and information sessions at multiple levels, and said leadership remained committed to dialogue with employees and their representatives.

Ubisoft’s explanation and the workers’ reported concerns describe different perspectives on the same restructuring: the company framed the changes as a way to support its organization and long-term sustainability, while workers and their representatives raised concerns about job cuts, workload, pay, and how work would be organized.

How does the strike fit Ubisoft’s wider cost reductions?

Ubisoft’s May 20, 2026 results put its FY2025-26 fixed cost base at €1.435 billion, down €118 million, or 8%, year over year, and nearly €325 million lower cumulatively than in FY2022-23. The company said the final phase of its cost-reduction plan targeted a €1.25 billion run-rate fixed cost base by March 2028. These are company-reported financial targets and results; they provide context for the dispute but do not independently verify individual worker allegations or explain the gap between the strike counts.
