Why did Transmeta replace Mark Allen?

Goldman was a retired semiconductor executive, not a serving Motorola officer. He retired from Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector in 1997 and joined Transmeta’s board as chairman in November 1998. He was credited with building Motorola’s microprocessor and microcontroller businesses. When named CEO, he said the decision had followed considerable deliberation and expressed confidence in Transmeta’s technology, business model and team of more than 400 employees. EE Times; EDN

What happened to Mark Allen and Hugh Barnes?
Allen had become CEO in March 2001, after founder David Ditzel stepped down from the role and remained chief technology officer. Allen was replaced in October; the cited accounts do not establish that he continued in another Transmeta position.

How long did Goldman serve as CEO?
Goldman’s CEO tenure was brief. In April 2002, Matthew R. Perry became Transmeta’s president and CEO. Goldman remained chairman, while Barnes continued as a director and left the president role. The financial pressure behind the leadership change
Transmeta’s revenue warning came amid broader losses. EE Times and EDN reported a $31 million net loss on $29.1 million in sales for the first half of 2001. The combination of weak demand conditions, processor production delays and falling revenue helps explain why the board changed leadership, but it does not by itself establish that the CEO change produced a turnaround.
