Why was it reported to cost £1.2 million?
The extraordinary figure was associated chiefly with the presentation and customization. BellaNaija reported a Superman-inspired badge made from 18-carat solid white gold, set with a 19-carat white diamond, plus a gold label engraved with the client’s name. The Drinks Business also described the standard Swarovski crystal being replaced with a flawless 19-carat white diamond. These are details reported at the time, not an independently documented gem appraisal or insurance valuation.

The reports do not establish the diamond’s grading details or provenance, the bottle’s ownership, or a completed sale at the stated amount. The £1.2 million should therefore be treated as a reported price/value, not as a confirmed transaction price or the market value of the liquid alone.
What Champagne was inside?
The brand was Goût de Diamants, now presented by Champagne Chapuy as its Champagne line. The Drinks Business reported in 2013 that production took place at the family-owned Champagne Chapuy estate in Oger, which it described as covering 8 hectares. A contemporaneous report described a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Historical product coverage also described Goût de Diamants as using Grand Cru grapes and listed brut, rosé, blanc de blancs and a vintage offering. One report stated that the brut was aged for at least 40 months before release, including four months after disgorgement. Those details describe historical reporting; they should not be assumed to be current technical specifications for every cuvée without a current producer sheet.
Does the price mean it was the best Champagne?
No. The reported price reflects a bespoke luxury presentation and private commission, not a comparative tasting result. The available reporting does not provide independent tasting evidence showing that this bottle’s Champagne was superior to other wines. A high headline figure can signal rarity, materials and personalization without establishing what the liquid is worth by ordinary wine-market measures.
