Pakistan’s KSE-100 reversed an early rise and closed at 168,636.85 on Thursday, October 1, 2026, down 1,332.47 points, or 0.78%, from the previous close. Contemporary reports cited selling and profit-taking alongside oil, inflation and geopolitical concerns, but did not establish how much each factor contributed or prove a single cause.
What happened to the KSE-100 on October 1?
The index opened near 170,000 and reached an intraday high of 170,688.38 before falling through the session. Business Recorder reported a low of 168,567.78 and a closing level of 168,636.85, a loss of 1,332.47 points (0.78%) from the previous close. Business Recorder’s October 1 report gives the session figures.
Which stocks weighed on the index?
Business Recorder identified Pakistan Petroleum (PPL), United Bank (UBL), Hub Power (HUBC), Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC), and Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) as the main index drags. The outlet attributed around 470 points of the decline to their combined contribution; that is a reported estimate, not an independently verified calculation. Business Recorder and Dawn’s October 2 account named the large drags.
Why did the KSE-100 fall over 1,300 points?
Contemporary coverage described broad-based selling and profit-taking. Reports also pointed to elevated oil prices, inflation concerns and uncertainty surrounding US-Iran diplomacy as pressures on investor sentiment. Dawn described the market as under pressure amid geopolitical tensions, while The Express Tribune also reported on the sharp sell-off. These accounts describe sentiment and possible pressures; they do not quantify each factor’s effect or establish that any one of them caused the decline. Dawn; The Express Tribune.

In its Q3 FY 2026 review, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan said the index fell 25,311 points over 61 trading sessions from its January 1 opening level, ending that period 14.54% lower. This is broader historical context, not an explanation of the October 1 move. SECP’s PSX Quarterly Market Review.
