Dozens of Tesla Cybertrucks and other Tesla vehicles were stored at Hunters Square, a shopping center in Farmington Hills, Michigan—not Detroit proper—in May and June 2025. Reports disagreed about whether the vehicles were unsold or had already been sold and were waiting for delivery. The city said vehicle storage was not a permitted use at the site, and June follow-up coverage reported the vehicles were removed after a court order.
Where were the Cybertrucks parked?
The vehicles were at Hunters Square on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb. The shopping center was undergoing redevelopment, and the parking area was near a closed Bed Bath & Beyond and Torrid site as well as an open Buffalo Wild Wings, according to TechCrunch’s May 28, 2025 report.
Reports did not give one consistent count. TechCrunch and Autoblog described dozens of Tesla vehicles, most of them Cybertrucks; WDIV/ClickOnDetroit reported 100 or more vehicles, including Cybertrucks, cars and SUVs. That larger figure was for all Tesla vehicles at the site, not Cybertrucks alone.
Why were the vehicles there—and were they unsold?
The available reporting does not establish why Tesla used the parking lot. TechCrunch noted a nearby Tesla showroom in West Bloomfield as a possible explanation for the overflow, but did not confirm that it caused the vehicles to be stored there.

Coverage also differed on the vehicles’ sales status. Some reports characterized them as unsold inventory. Fortune, citing CBS Detroit, reported on June 4, 2025, that Tesla employees said the vehicles had been sold and were awaiting delivery. The safest description is that Tesla vehicles were being stored there; it is not established that every one was unsold.
The episode drew attention amid reports about Cybertruck sales and inventory, but those figures do not identify the status of the vehicles in Farmington Hills. Fortune reported Cox Automotive’s estimate of just over 6,000 Cybertruck sales in the first quarter of 2025; that was a third-party estimate, not an audited Tesla figure. Fortune also relayed Electrek’s estimate of a record inventory stockpile of 10,000 units in May 2025. That, too, was a reported estimate rather than an official Tesla count. Neither figure establishes Tesla’s inventory now.

What did Farmington Hills officials do?
The city told WDIV that vehicle storage was not a permitted use at the site. A city spokesperson said the code enforcement office had been in communication with Hunters Square’s management and that “the enforcement process is being followed and takes time.” Autoblog likewise reported that the city had notified the landlord and was pursuing enforcement.
A June follow-up reported that a judge ordered the property owner to remove the vehicles by June 25, and that they were subsequently removed. That outcome was reported by Crain’s Detroit Business and relayed in later coverage; the court record was not independently available in the reporting cited here.
