What shoppers reported—and what that does not prove
TechJuice reported that some shoppers saw items priced at three to four times their previous levels. That figure describes examples reported by the outlet; it is not a measured average, representative price index, or platform-wide finding. The report also said increases affected newer inventory brought in after the budget, while questioning some increases on old-stock items. What Temu said about its prices
A Temu spokesperson told TechJuice: “The prices of some products may have changed due to recent changes in external policies and rising operational costs across various areas. We remain committed to providing access to quality products at affordable prices, while fully complying with local requirements.” The statement does not identify which policies or costs affected a particular listing, or assign a share of any price change to them. What the 5% tax covers
The FBR-hosted Finance Bill 2025 provides for a Digital Presence Proceeds Tax at 5% of payment for qualifying goods and services digitally ordered from foreign vendors and supplied from outside Pakistan. The statutory text assigns collection responsibility to payment intermediaries. This is a proceeds tax with defined scope—not a universal import-duty rate, and not proof that tax alone caused products to become several times more expensive. Keep this tax distinct from customs duties, sales taxes, shipping fees, exchange-rate effects, and seller or platform pricing. The available evidence does not establish how these factors combined for any particular product or checkout.
Why delivery costs may also have changed
INP/WealthPK separately reported that Pakistan Customs blocked low-cost options, including AliExpress Standard Shipping and Cainiao, after which sellers faced more expensive shipping services. The article quoted seller Tariq Mehmood and logistics worker Sumbal Asif. No official customs notice confirming the alleged blocking is available in the cited material, so this should be treated as a reported disruption—not a verified formal ban or proof of what shipping methods are available now. How to compare a listing before buying
A headline item price is not the same as the amount you will pay or the value of the delivery terms. For a useful comparison between Temu and AliExpress, check the same model and specification on both platforms, then compare:
- Item price and currency shown at checkout.
- Shipping method, fee, and estimated delivery time.
- Taxes or duties shown at checkout and any charges that may be due on delivery.
- Return and refund terms.
Do not assume that a 2025 report describes October 2026 prices or shipping availability. The FBR customs index lists separate tariff resources for fiscal years 2025–26 and 2026–27, and customs charges may depend on product classification and the applicable schedule.
