Golden West Brewing Co entered voluntary administration in late February 2024 and stopped trading at its Subiaco brewpub after a sharp fall in turnover left it without enough capital to continue. The former Hay Street site later became home to FOUND; the available reports do not establish that Golden West resumed trading under its old name.
Why did Golden West Brewing close?
Administrator Mathieu Tribut said Golden West lacked the capital to keep trading after turnover dropped dramatically in January and February 2024, following a strong final quarter of 2023. “The company had insufficient capital to continue trading,” he told PerthNow on 3 March 2024.
Tribut also said the business had completed a small business restructure in 2023 and traded well late that year. These are the administrator’s account of the company’s recent trading, not independently published financial results. PerthNow separately cited cost-of-living pressures and closures elsewhere as industry context; that was attributed to a source close to the company, not given as Tribut’s specific explanation for Golden West’s failure.
When did Golden West enter administration?
Golden West entered voluntary administration in late February 2024 and suspended trading at its Subiaco venue. The Crafty Pint reported on 29 February that administrator Tribut was confident someone could be found for the site, saying, “I’m confident that we will find someone.” Some brewing staff were retained to finish batches that might be sold through distributors, according to The Crafty Pint.

What happened to the Subiaco venue?
The Hay Street brewpub at 399 Hay Street opened on 22 December 2021, according to PerthNow. The business had begun as Modular Brewing before trading as Golden West Brewing Co.

- Late February 2024: Golden West suspended trading and closed its brewpub.
- 1 May 2024: Pragma Lawyers reported that FOUND had acquired Golden West Brewing Co assets. At the time, the firm said the venue was expected to reopen toward the end of September; that was an expectation, not a confirmed reopening date.
- 17 June 2024: The City of Subiaco said Golden West had served its last schooner from Hay Street and that FOUND was set to take over the site.
- 2025: See Subiaco described FOUND as open on the former Golden West site.
The asset acquisition was reported by Pragma Lawyers; the City’s update is at Welcome to the neighbourhood, and the later account appears in See Subiaco’s 2025 magazine.
Did Golden West close for good?
Golden West ceased operating at the Hay Street venue during administration, and its assets were later acquired by FOUND. The former site returned to use under FOUND, but the available reports do not say that Golden West itself restarted under its former name.

What was Golden West known for?
PerthNow reported that Golden West put four of its best-selling beers into cans in 2022. Its Smooth Bourbon Vanilla Porter later won a trophy at the 2023 Perth Royal Beer Awards. Those reports document the brewery’s past products and award; they do not establish that Golden West beers remain available.
