It was a sharp rebound after the prior week’s losses—not evidence on its own of a lasting uptrend. By Wednesday, October 7, soybean-oil weakness had pulled prices modestly lower, according to CropGPT’s October 8 analysis.
What happened at the October 6 close?
CME Group reported that new-crop November soybean futures rose 22¼ cents to settle at 1303’0, regaining the 1300’0 level for the first time since late September. In CBOT futures notation, 1303’0 represents 1,303 cents, or $13.03, per bushel. CME described the move as part of a sharp rally across grain futures.
Barchart reported gains of 10¾ to 22¼ cents across soybean contracts that session. Its separate nearby cash soybean measure rose 21½ cents to $12.47½. Futures and cash prices are different market measures; the cash figure is not another way of stating the November futures settlement.
Why did soybean futures rebound?
CropGPT’s October 8 account characterized the advance as a recovery from steep losses in the preceding week. Soybeans posted a net gain over the three sessions through Wednesday, led by the October 6 rally. The report identified export demand and a harvest running behind its usual pace as supports.

- Disease-Smart Cultivation: edamame seeds to plant resist common pests when grown in full sun and evenly moist soil; gardening kit growers mulch to conserve water and pick bright green pods before they yellow.
Export demand
CropGPT reported, citing USDA data for 2026, that U.S. soybean export commitments stood at 22.236 million tonnes—89% above the same point a year earlier and equal to 48% of USDA’s export forecast. It also reported USDA inspections of 1.138 million tonnes for the week of October 1, up 45.3% from the previous week. These figures are reported through CropGPT’s account, rather than independently verified here against the underlying USDA datasets.
Demand for soy products added another supportive signal: CropGPT, citing U.S. Census data, described August 2026 soybean-meal exports of 1.366 million tonnes as a record.

A harvest behind normal pace
CropGPT reported that USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) put the soybean harvest at 25% complete as of October 4, 2026, 7 to 8 percentage points behind normal. A slower harvest can limit the pace at which newly harvested supplies reach the market, helping support prices in the near term. The progress figure is dated; it does not describe the crop’s current status beyond that reporting date.
What limited confidence in a sustained rally?
Expectations of ample supply
The same October 8 analysis said the U.S. crop remained large and market participants expected a slight increase in USDA’s yield estimate in the October 9 Crop Production report. That report was still upcoming when CropGPT published its account, so the anticipated change was a market expectation, not a reported result.

Fund liquidation
CropGPT reported that managed money cut its net long position in soybean futures and options by 23,877 contracts to 241,164 in the week ended September 29, mainly through long liquidation. That positioning data describes the reported week, not a real-time measure of investor sentiment.
Soybean-oil weakness and harvest selling
CropGPT said soybean-oil weakness pressured soybean prices after the rebound. It also noted that a faster harvest could bring more seasonal hedge selling, adding supply pressure. Those factors help explain why a strong session did not settle whether the market had changed direction.

How to read the move
The October 6 gain was a notable one-day advance within a short recovery, supported by reported export strength and delayed harvest progress. But large-crop expectations, fund selling, and weaker soybean oil were counterweights; the modest pullback by Wednesday underscored that the rebound remained vulnerable. The October 9 USDA Crop Production report was the next key catalyst as of October 8, not a result that could yet confirm or overturn those expectations.
For personal-finance readers, the key distinction is between a market move and a dependable trend: one session’s futures gain does not establish where prices will go next. These figures describe U.S. CBOT futures and a separately reported nearby cash series, not a universal price for soybeans or a forecast of retail food costs.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- HEIRLOOM VARIETY & HIGH YIELD: Outsidepride soy bean seeds is a robust heirloom strain known for its high yield, producing over 3 bushels per acre more than the popular Manokin variety, making it a valuable choice for maximizing harvest output. This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
- RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. These soybeans can be processed into a wide range of products, including soy milk powder, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, and various industrial non-food products, showcasing its versatility. Ideal for making various soy-based meals such as edamame snacks.
- OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.
- HIGH-PROTEIN ANIMAL FEED: The high-protein fiber left after oil extraction is ideal for animal feed, particularly for poultry and swine industries, which consume over half of the processed soybean meal. This meal is also crucial for cattle, other farm animals, and pets, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
- ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
