William said he liked the house and did not want to leave, while the property was listed in the mid-A$5 million range.
What was the disagreement about?
In a 5 June 2017 report, PerthNow journalist Linda Parri said the home had been on the market for six months. William Porteous said he liked living there and questioned why he should move. He also described telling prospective buyers that an offer would need to meet the amount he wanted. The report quoted him saying, “Why move?” and “I’m not selling.”
That account describes a reported clash over moving and the price at which William would agree to sell. It does not establish a court dispute or a legal ownership contest between the couple. PerthNow’s 2017 report covered William’s comments.
Which house was involved?
Contemporaneous real-estate coverage identified the property as 138 Dalkeith Road, Nedlands. On 14 February 2017, realestate.com.au described it as a Georgian-style mansion and gave a mid-A$5 million price guide. Its report named Rose’s daughter, Joanna Lacson-Fox, as the official owner at that time; that is a dated description, not proof of ownership in later years. The 2017 listing report also described high ceilings, oak parquetry, a marble fireplace, an elevator, a butler’s pantry and a Lacanche cooker imported from France. These were listing descriptions, not independent inspection findings.

How did the asking price and reported sale compare?
| Event | Reported price | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 listing | Mid-A$5 million range | realestate.com.au, 14 February 2017; a price guide. |
| After six months on the market in 2017 | Mid-A$5 million range | PerthNow, 5 June 2017; reported asking price. |
| 2022 relisting | Around A$5.75 million | PerthNow, 13 October 2022; reported as the price sought. |
| Later recorded sale | A$4.7 million | REIWA reports a sale date of 21 June 2023; realestate.com.au reports 14 December 2023. The records disagree on the date. |
The asking prices and later sale figure describe different stages of the property’s history; they should not be treated as equivalent valuations. PerthNow reported the 2022 relisting and said the couple had owned the property since 2019. A separate REIWA property record gives the June 2023 sale date, while the realestate.com.au record gives December 2023. Both report A$4.7 million.
Did the Porteouses sell the mansion?
Property platforms report a 2023 sale for A$4.7 million, but the date differs between REIWA and realestate.com.au. The sources do not resolve that discrepancy. The same realestate.com.au page also displays a “For sale” label alongside the historic sale information, so that dynamic display does not establish the property’s present listing or ownership status. No authoritative current title information is established here.

The chronology matters: realestate.com.au reported in 2017 that Joanna Lacson-Fox was the official owner at that time; PerthNow later reported that Rose and William had owned the home since 2019. Those are reports about different points in time, not necessarily contradictory claims. A May 2019 report said an earlier listing had been withdrawn without a change of hands.
