Rad Power Bikes confirmed another workforce reduction in July 2024, but did not say how many people lost their jobs or which departments were affected. The company said rising costs and economic headwinds made the cuts necessary for its long-term sustainability. That was the company’s explanation at the time—not an independently established account of every cause.
What Rad Power Bikes said about the July 2024 layoffs
GeekWire reported on August 5, 2024, that Rad had reduced its workforce the previous month. A company spokesperson declined to provide the number of positions eliminated or identify the teams involved.
The spokesperson said: “Last month, Rad Power Bikes made the difficult decision to reduce our team’s size so we can ensure the brand’s longevity, continue on our mission, and serve our rider community.” The spokesperson also pointed to rising costs and economic headwinds, describing the reduction as necessary for the business’s long-term sustainability. TechCrunch sources, as summarized in that report, said the cuts mostly affected product-development teams. Rad did not confirm that departmental account, so it should not be treated as an official breakdown.

Why the “sixth round” label needs a date
GeekWire called the July 2024 reduction Rad’s sixth layoff round since 2021. That was the outlet’s count as of August 2024, not a total that includes later events. The same report cited 100 positions cut in April 2021 and 63 in July 2022, followed by rounds in December 2022, April 2023, July 2023, and July 2024.
Rad had expanded rapidly before the cuts. GeekWire reported that the company began in 2007, started direct-to-consumer online e-bike sales in 2015, and raised $304 million in 2021. It also cited PitchBook’s October 2021 valuation of $1.65 billion. Those figures describe the company’s earlier growth and valuation; they do not establish its financial position in 2024.
What changed after the 2024 cuts
The July 2024 workforce reduction did not prevent further financial deterioration. GeekWire reported that Rad disclosed serious financial difficulties in November 2025 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2025. Its 2026 account, citing the bankruptcy filing, reported gross revenue of $129.8 million in 2023, $103.8 million in 2024, and $63.3 million toward the end of 2025. These are figures from the filing as reported by GeekWire, not a measure of current sales.
In January 2026, an asset auction produced a $13.2 million winning bid from Life EV. The court-approved acquisition of certain Rad assets closed on February 27, 2026, according to GeekWire’s March 2026 report. An asset sale is not the same as the old company continuing unchanged.

Life EV CEO Robert Provost described the outcome in March 2026 as “not a continuation of Rad Power, more like a phoenix,” and called it “The rebirth.” At that time, he discussed plans to rehire employees, retain or expand stores, shift toward US assembly, and offer a discounted battery replacement program for certain affected customers. Those were plans stated in March 2026, not confirmation that every measure was completed.

Rad-branded e-bikes are still sold in the United States by Rad Life Mobility, but current terms distinguish between products bought before and after the change. The seller’s US purchase terms, updated September 17, 2026, say the new owner is not obligated to provide warranty or service for products purchased before December 15, 2025. The terms leave open the possibility of discretionary upgrade or service policies, which should not be confused with a guaranteed warranty.
For a bike bought before that date, check the current official support and warranty terms for the relevant bike and battery rather than relying on customer-service assurances made in 2024 or on plans announced in March 2026. The spokesperson said in 2024 that seven-day phone and chat support would continue and cited more than 1,200 retail and service providers across North America; those were claims about service at that time, before the bankruptcy and asset acquisition.
