Why were the reviews described as disappointing?
GameSpot reported a Metacritic score of 78 at the time of its article and said, citing Seoul Economic Daily, that market expectations had been in the mid-to-high 80s. The relevant comparison is therefore between the score then displayed and the expectation reported in coverage—not a judgment that 78 makes the game poor. Reviews and the share decline arrived together, and the reported score was below the expectation cited in the coverage. That makes reviews a plausible contemporaneous factor, but the reporting does not isolate their effect from other influences on trading. It would be too strong to say the reviews alone caused the fall.

May 12, 2026: first-quarter results
Pearl Abyss reported first-quarter revenue of KRW 328.5 billion, operating profit of KRW 212.1 billion, and net income of KRW 170.0 billion. The company attributed KRW 266.5 billion of revenue to Crimson Desert, with the game’s revenue split evenly between console and PC.

August 12, 2026: brokerage analysis of the second quarter
Mirae Asset Securities reported second-quarter revenue of KRW 192.6 billion and operating profit of KRW 67.6 billion, both below the consensus estimates cited in its report. It also reported 2.11 million Crimson Desert copies sold in the quarter and described game revenue as down 49% quarter over quarter.
