Nintendo raised U.S. prices for the original Switch family and select accessories effective August 3, 2025, citing “market conditions.” The company did not identify tariffs or another specific trigger in its announcement. Prices reported at Target around the change show how much the three console models increased, but they are historical listings—not guaranteed prices today.

When did the U.S. price change take effect, and which products did it cover?

Nintendo of America announced the update on August 1, 2025, with new U.S. pricing effective August 3. The notice named the standard Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, Nintendo Switch Lite, and select accessories. It did not publish the revised console prices. Nintendo’s pricing update

How much did the Switch prices increase?

On August 1, 2025, Ars Technica reported Target listings showing the following prices before and after the change. These are U.S. retailer listings reported at that time, not Nintendo-announced prices or a current nationwide price list. Ars Technica’s report

Model Prior Target listing New Target listing Difference
Nintendo Switch $299.99 $339.99 $40
Nintendo Switch OLED Model $349.99 $399.99 $50
Nintendo Switch Lite $199.99 $229.99 $30

All amounts are U.S. dollars. Retailer prices and availability can change, so check current listings before budgeting for a purchase; these figures should not be applied to other countries.

Tariffs were described as a likely factor in Ars Technica’s contemporary coverage, but that was the publication’s analysis, not a reason Nintendo confirmed for this specific increase. Ars Technica’s report

What did Nintendo say about tariffs and hardware pricing?

In a May 8, 2025 financial-results briefing, Nintendo President and Representative Director Shuntaro Furukawa discussed the company’s general approach to hardware pricing. He said Nintendo considers manufacturing cost, consumers’ impression of a price, exchange-rate differences from the Switch launch, and market conditions in each region. He also said the company’s basic policy is to treat imposed tariffs as part of cost and incorporate them into prices. Nintendo’s FY2025 financial-results briefing Q&A

Those broader remarks provide context for how Nintendo thinks about pricing; they do not establish that tariffs caused the August 2025 U.S. update.
