In June 2024, New Jersey declined to grant routine renewals for liquor licenses held by Trump National Golf Club Bedminster and Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck while the state reviewed whether the applicants remained qualified after Donald Trump’s New York felony conviction. The clubs received temporary permits to keep serving alcohol pending a hearing; the action was not a final finding that they had permanently lost their licenses.
What New Jersey decided in June 2024
The two clubs applied to renew licenses for the term beginning July 1, 2024. Rather than approve those renewals, New Jersey’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) issued temporary miscellaneous permits and scheduled a qualification hearing. Forbes reported the action on June 28, 2024: Forbes’ report on the two clubs’ applications.
The official June 28 notice to Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck, LLC set a hearing for July 19 in Trenton, required the club to submit evidence and briefing by July 11, and granted a 90-day temporary miscellaneous permit pending the hearing outcome. The notice said the hearing was needed for the director to decide the pending renewal application: New Jersey ABC’s June 28, 2024 Colts Neck notice.
In other words, the state paused the ordinary renewal process while it assessed eligibility. The temporary permits allowed alcohol service to continue during that interim period.

Why the conviction raised a licensing question
On May 30, 2024, a New York jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of first-degree falsification of business records. New Jersey ABC cited that verdict in its Colts Neck hearing notice: the official notice.
New Jersey law, N.J.S.A. 33:1-25, bars issuing a liquor license to a person convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. The state’s ABC handbook, as quoted by the Associated Press, describes moral turpitude as a serious crime that usually involves dishonesty, fraud, or depravity: AP’s June 10, 2024 report.

The Colts Neck notice also says the ABC director has substantial discretion to assess an applicant’s background and character. Meeting technical requirements alone does not automatically prove that an applicant is qualified. The notice placed the burden on the club to establish qualification by a preponderance of the evidence—a standard requiring it to show that its position is more likely true than not.
Who held the licenses, and what ownership issue was disputed?
The named Colts Neck licensee was Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck, LLC—not Trump personally. The notice traces the LLC’s ownership through DJT Holdings entities to the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust and cites the finding that Trump was the trust’s sole beneficiary.

The Trump Organization told the Associated Press that Trump was not an officer or director of any entity holding a New Jersey liquor license. Forbes reported that the state viewed him as retaining a direct beneficial interest through revenues and profits. Those are different claims: the company emphasized that Trump was not an officer or director of the license-holding entities, while the state’s review focused on ownership and financial benefit. The hearing was to address whether the applicant remained qualified in light of those facts and the conviction; the notice did not declare that the conviction automatically disqualified the corporate licensee. Which clubs were affected—and which was not?
The June 2024 nonrenewal action concerned Bedminster and Colts Neck. The outcome was not the same for all three Trump golf clubs in New Jersey: Forbes reported that local authorities renewed the Pine Hill club’s license earlier that month, and that it held a different license category. Forbes’ report describes the distinction.

What is known about the licenses now?
The June 2024 notice and reporting establish an interim decision, the temporary permits, and a scheduled hearing. They do not establish the hearing’s final outcome or whether Bedminster and Colts Neck currently hold active licenses. The New Jersey ABC orders and advisories index reviewed for later action does not itself resolve this specific hearing: New Jersey ABC orders and advisories. The June 2024 action should therefore not be treated as proof of either a permanent loss or a current license status.
