The company cited declining sales and the cost of significant equipment upgrades; it planned a final production run in mid-July 2023 and said remaining stock would be sold while supplies lasted.
Why did Nestlé discontinue Fantales?
Nestlé said fewer people were buying Fantales, while the equipment used to make them needed significant investment. Andrew Lawrey, Nestlé Oceania’s confectionery general manager, said it had become increasingly difficult to obtain parts needed to maintain the equipment. With sales declining, he said replacing it was not viable.

Nestlé did not publish sales figures, production volumes, market share, or an estimate of the required investment. Its explanation was that declining demand and the cost and difficulty of maintaining or replacing the production equipment made continued manufacture unviable.
When did Fantales stop being made?
Nestlé announced the discontinuation on 20 June 2023. The company said production would cease the following month, with the final run scheduled for mid-July 2023. It said finished product would continue to be sold while stocks lasted. The 93 years refers to the interval between Fantales’ 1930 origin and the 2023 announcement.
