The case for readiness was real, but it came with a pressing counterpoint: Lime’s May 2026 IPO filing warned that it lacked sufficient liquidity for substantial near-term obligations. Lime completed its IPO in July, and its August results said the proceeds had paid down all outstanding long-term debt.
Why Lime said it was ready to list
In a July 2026 interview with TechCrunch, CEO Wayne Ting said Lime wanted to show investors it could operate as a durable, self-sustaining business before listing. He said the company had recorded three consecutive years of positive free cash flow. His argument was that a multi-year record—not just a promising growth story—made the timing more credible.
Lime’s business had also expanded: the company reported revenue of $521 million in 2023, $686.6 million in 2024, and $886.7 million in 2025, according to its filing as summarized by TechCrunch in May 2026. Around the IPO, Lime operated shared e-bikes and e-scooters in 230 cities across 29 countries, with rides available through its own app and, in some markets, Uber’s app.
Positive free cash flow did not mean net profit
The distinction matters for investors. Free cash flow describes cash generated after capital spending; net income is an accounting measure that includes other expenses and items. Lime’s filing showed positive free cash flow alongside net losses: $122.3 million in 2023, $33.9 million in 2024, and $59.3 million in 2025. It reported $104 million in free cash flow for 2025. Those figures are not contradictory, but they do not establish that Lime had become GAAP-profitable before the IPO.

The growth story also had business-partner exposure. Lime’s filing showed that 14.3% of 2025 revenue came through its Uber partnership, according to TechCrunch’s May 2026 report. Uber owned 24% of Lime at the time of the IPO, TechCrunch reported in July.
The IPO filing also revealed financing pressure
Lime’s readiness case sat alongside a near-term liquidity challenge. TechCrunch’s May 2026 account of the filing reported about $1 billion in current liabilities, including roughly $846 million due within 12 months and $675.8 million due by the end of 2026. Lime had $261 million in cash as of March 31, 2026, and said it did not have sufficient liquidity to pay those obligations. The filing warned of substantial doubt about Lime’s ability to continue as a going concern without financing or changes to its debt arrangements.

That warning does not erase the free-cash-flow record; it shows why a company can generate positive free cash flow and still face a cash-timing or debt problem. A history of cash generation is not the same as having enough available cash to meet large obligations as they come due.
What happened in the IPO and afterward
Lime completed its IPO in July 2026, raising $167 million by selling 6.68 million shares at $25 each. Its shares began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker LIME, according to TechCrunch’s July report. Ting said at the time, “I think the timing is right, because the business is strong. We still have a lot of growth ahead of us.” He also framed the decision against a micromobility sector in which competitors had struggled, including Bird’s bankruptcy restructuring and other companies’ mergers, delistings, or shutdowns.

In its August 2026 second-quarter results release, Lime reported revenue of $304 million, up 24% year over year, and adjusted EBITDA of $84 million, a 28% margin. The company said IPO proceeds had paid down all outstanding long-term debt, a direct balance-sheet consequence of the listing.
Lime also reported $295 million in Q2 net income, but the company said that result was positively affected by one-time IPO-related items. It should not be read as evidence that Lime had achieved $295 million in recurring operating profit. Revenue growth, adjusted EBITDA, debt repayment, and net income each describe different parts of the company’s financial position.

What the timing argument means for investors
Lime’s explanation combined a strategic claim with a financing reality: it said it had waited until it could demonstrate sustained positive free cash flow, while its IPO filing also disclosed significant near-term obligations and a need for financing or debt changes. The July offering raised capital, and the August release said the proceeds retired outstanding long-term debt. Whether Lime can sustain growth and cash generation over time is a separate question from whether the IPO addressed the liabilities disclosed in May.
The August release was Lime’s first quarter as a public company; its results are a dated snapshot, not proof of how later quarters performed. Investors assessing the company should keep the pre-IPO net losses, the cash-flow measure, the IPO-related impact on Q2 net income, and the debt paydown distinct rather than treating any one figure as a complete verdict.
