Kotak Mahindra Bank shares rose in morning trading on October 6, 2026, after reports of strong year-over-year growth in its provisional Q2 FY27 net advances and deposits. A TradingView-distributed headline put the gain at 3.7%; Moneycontrol reported a 3.99% rise at 9:40 a.m. IST. Those are intraday figures, not closing returns, and the available reports do not establish a shared price reference or calculation method.

Why did Kotak Mahindra Bank shares rise?

The reported catalyst was the bank’s provisional operating update for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. As reported by Moneycontrol, period-end net advances and total deposits both posted strong year-over-year growth. The figures offered investors a snapshot of lending and deposit expansion; on their own, they do not establish what happened to profitability, asset quality, funding costs, or the share’s valuation.

What did the provisional Q2 FY27 update report?

The figures below were reported by Moneycontrol as part of the provisional update. The original exchange filing was not available in the reports reviewed, so these are attributed to the news coverage rather than presented as independently verified filing data.

Measure September 30 period-end balance Year-over-year change Quarter-over-quarter change
Net advances ₹5.77 lakh crore 24.7% 12.7%
Total deposits ₹6.51 lakh crore 23.2% 13.7%

Moneycontrol reported that the provisional figures were subject to limited review by statutory auditors.

Average balances show a different view

Quarterly averages are not the same as balances at the September 30 reporting date. Moneycontrol reported average net advances of ₹5.47 lakh crore, up 22.1% year over year and 10.5% quarter over quarter, and average deposits of ₹6.06 lakh crore, up 18.8% year over year and 8.5% quarter over quarter.

CASA and foreign-currency deposits

Period-end current and savings account (CASA) deposits were reported at ₹2.49 lakh crore, up 11.3% year over year and 7.8% quarter over quarter. Average CASA was ₹2.26 lakh crore, up 14.2% year over year and 4.4% quarter over quarter. These reported CASA growth rates were below the figures for total deposits and net advances; the update alone does not explain why.

Rank #2

The report also listed FCNR(B) deposits of $5.78 billion, equivalent to about ₹55,344 crore, and said the bank’s international branches held advances of $1.68 billion, or about ₹16,110 crore, against those deposits.

Why are the reported share-price gains different?

Report Figure and timing What it represents
TradingView-distributed item 3.7%; observation time not stated in the headline Headline-reported share-price move
Moneycontrol 3.99% at 9:40 a.m. IST on October 6, 2026 Timestamped intraday gain; Moneycontrol also described the shares as up nearly 4% in opening trade

The figures may reflect different observation times or reporting conventions. The available coverage does not specify enough about their price references or calculation methods to reconcile them. Neither figure should be read as the stock’s closing return for the day.

What the update does—and does not—tell investors

Advances and deposits indicate the scale and growth of lending and funding balances, but they do not by themselves show whether growth is profitable or how the bank’s overall financial performance will develop. The reported update does not provide enough evidence to infer margins, deposit quality, future growth sustainability, or whether the share price was attractive. Investors assessing those questions would need to consider additional results and disclosures beyond these provisional operating balances.
