Successful Farming attributed this explanation to Deere: “The decision to move cab production ensures the company can balance workforce needs within the tight labor market, while also ensuring Waterloo can open up floor space to manufacture new products.” That is the company’s stated rationale, not an independently established account of every factor behind the decision.

Making room for Waterloo product programs
The second stated goal was to open floor space at Waterloo for new product programs. The announcement coverage did not name those programs, so their products or production plans cannot be identified from these reports.
What the announcement said about timing
Deere’s stated target was to complete the transition during fiscal 2024, as reported by Successful Farming and Assembly Magazine. In an October 3, 2024 report, The Commercial Review quoted a Deere spokeswoman describing the company as completing the cab transition announced in 2022. That later characterization does not verify the precise date when Waterloo cab production ended.

How many Waterloo workers could be affected?
Contemporaneous reporting put the estimate at around 250 potentially affected workers. The number was conditional: the outcome depended on production volumes, employee attrition over the following two years, and staffing needs for new Waterloo programs, according to Successful Farming and Assembly Magazine.
