Announced on September 1, 2026, the product adds a two-by-two cabin, upgraded seatback technology, meals and airport priority benefits. JetBlue said the first aircraft would debut later in 2026 and that booking would open in the fall, but it had not yet named routes, set an exact start date or published fares in its official materials available October 8, 2026.
Why is JetBlue adding BlueFirst?
JetBlue describes BlueFirst as a way to offer a premium experience on markets that do not currently have Mint. The airline presents the two products as complementary: BlueFirst is intended for non-Mint aircraft and routes, rather than as a replacement for Mint. Its fare-shopping announcement lists Main, EvenMore, BlueFirst and Mint as separate onboard experiences.
JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty said customers are increasingly looking for premium experiences and that BlueFirst is intended to deliver an elevated experience with JetBlue-style service and value. That is the airline’s stated rationale; its announcement did not quantify expected demand, revenue or customer preference. The company places the launch within its JetForward strategy. What does BlueFirst include?
Seats and cabin layout
JetBlue announced two seats on each side of the aisle. It says the seats will recline five inches and provide up to seven inches more legroom than its Main seats. The airline developed the seats with Tuft & Needle, using T&N Flex foam that it describes as offering personalized support and responsive pressure relief. Those comfort descriptions are JetBlue’s product claims, not independent test findings.

When does JetBlue first class start, and which routes will have it?
JetBlue said the first BlueFirst aircraft was expected later in 2026 and that the product would be available to book in the fall. As of the airline materials available October 8, 2026, it had not announced an exact first-flight date, initial routes or specific ticket prices. The airline said it would share initial routes and booking availability later. BlueFirst is planned for routes where Mint is not currently offered, but that does not identify which individual routes will receive it.

How is BlueFirst different from Mint?
The clearest published distinction is where JetBlue intends to offer each product: BlueFirst on non-Mint aircraft and routes, with Mint remaining a separate experience. JetBlue has not published a route-by-route launch list or a route- and date-specific price comparison, so fare names alone do not establish which option costs less.

What should travelers know about BlueFirst fares?
JetBlue’s fare page lists Base, Standard and Flex options for BlueFirst. The fare name alone does not establish the ticket price; cost depends on the itinerary and booking details. The airline’s current fare page describes these general differences:
- Base: Does not include seat selection. Eligible cancellations result in travel credit minus a fee.
- Standard: Includes seat selection. Eligible cancellations result in travel credit.
- Flex: Eligible cancellations can be refunded to the original payment method.
Eligibility and other conditions are governed by JetBlue’s fare rules, and benefits attached to an existing booking remain those associated with the fare purchased at booking. Review the terms during checkout, since fare conditions can change. JetBlue’s fare options page

What the launch does—and does not—tell passengers
BlueFirst is a concrete new premium cabin announcement, with specified seat, technology, dining and airport features. But the information available so far does not establish how much a ticket will cost, which routes will launch first, or whether the experience will meet JetBlue’s comfort claims in practice. JetBlue also cited its first-place ranking among First/Business Class passengers in the JD Power 2026 North America Airline Satisfaction Study for a second consecutive year; that award reference is airline-reported and does not evaluate BlueFirst itself.
For travelers deciding whether to wait for the product, the practical next step is to compare the announced inclusions with the fare rules and final itinerary once BlueFirst booking opens. The fare-shopping update introducing the four onboard experiences is available in JetBlue’s July 27, 2026 announcement.
