Old Ethereum exchange-outflow figures can change because a chart provider may identify and add exchange wallets after the transfers occurred. The blockchain’s transaction record does not change; the provider’s classification of which addresses belong to an exchange can. CryptoQuant says its ETH exchange-flow history may be revised as new exchange wallets are discovered, added, and validated, and warns that the endpoint does not provide point-in-time historical accuracy.
What changes—and what does not
Ethereum records transactions between addresses. It does not label an address “Exchange X” or say that a transfer is an exchange withdrawal. Analytics providers make those classifications, then calculate flow measures from transactions involving the addresses they include.
Wallet clustering groups addresses believed to share control or a service relationship. Entity attribution is the further step of associating a cluster with a named organization, such as an exchange. That attribution relies on evidence beyond the public transaction record. Chainalysis explains that on-chain analysis alone cannot prove who owns a wallet because identity is not written to the blockchain (Chainalysis wallet-attribution glossary). Its description is a general explanation of attribution, not evidence that CryptoQuant or Glassnode use the same proprietary methods.
If a provider adds addresses to an exchange’s wallet set, it can recalculate historical flows using that expanded set. Transfers that were already on Ethereum may then count in the chart even though the ledger entries themselves are unchanged. A changed historical chart therefore does not, by itself, mean that past transactions were altered or that the provider has identified a new transfer.

How CryptoQuant describes revisions to its ETH flow data
CryptoQuant’s ETH exchange-flow API documentation says: “Historical data may change as new exchange wallets are discovered, added, and validated.” The documentation also says this endpoint does not provide point-in-time accuracy. CryptoQuant’s stated automatic wallet-data update runs every Tuesday at 00:00 UTC; that schedule applies to this documented CryptoQuant data, not to analytics providers generally. Its API documentation’s OpenAPI metadata shows version 1.3.0, which is an API-documentation version, not a version number for its wallet-labeling model (CryptoQuant API documentation).
CryptoQuant documents aggregate categories for all exchanges, spot exchanges, and derivative exchanges, as well as distinct flow measures. Its average inflow or outflow describes the average transaction value for the day. Because the addresses included in a category can change, a recalculated historical series can change too. The documentation does not establish that every past data point will change, nor does it quantify the size of revisions.

Why exchange-flow charts from different providers may disagree
Two charts bearing similar labels may not measure the same thing. Compare their definitions and coverage before treating a difference as a contradiction.
- Provider and capture date: Record the provider and the date you viewed or exported the chart. CryptoQuant explicitly says its cited endpoint is not point-in-time accurate, so a later view may reflect updated wallet labels.
- Metric: Total outflow, netflow, average flow, reserve change, and a change in exchange-held supply are not interchangeable. For example, Glassnode’s cited chart measures the 30-day change in ETH supply held in exchange wallets; that is a position change over a period, not simply a total-outflow figure (Glassnode exchange balance chart).
- Entity scope: Check whether the series covers all exchanges, spot exchanges, derivatives exchanges, a single named exchange, or another grouping. CryptoQuant documents separate aggregate categories for all, spot, and derivative exchanges.
- Wallet-label coverage: Providers may use different identified address sets, and those sets may be incomplete. Glassnode says its exchange balances rely on published exchange information and proprietary clustering, and may omit reserves for exchanges that do not disclose official addresses (Glassnode exchange-balance methodology).
For a meaningful comparison, preserve both chart snapshots and note each provider, metric, scope, and capture date. If labels or historical values are revised later, describe the newer series as reflecting the provider’s current classifications rather than implying that the blockchain record changed.

What an outflow can—and cannot—tell you
An outflow chart represents transfers away from addresses the provider classifies as exchange wallets, according to that chart’s definition. It does not alone establish who controls the destination address, what the recipient intends to do, or whether the ETH will be sold, held, or moved into cold storage. Describing an outflow as accumulation, reduced selling pressure, or a bullish signal is an interpretation, not a conclusion proved by the flow figure itself (CryptoQuant API documentation).
No published statistic in the cited documentation establishes how large historical revisions typically are. The Tuesday update time is an operational schedule, not a measure of revision size; avoid treating a particular chart’s current value as a permanent historical fact.
