At the time Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained the delay in announcing a date, he pointed to marketing strategy—not a development problem. He said Take-Two preferred to release marketing materials closer to a game’s release window, so excitement would not build too far ahead of the launch. GTA VI now has a confirmed release date: November 19, 2026.
Why GTA 6 had no announced release date at the time
In remarks reported by UNILAD Tech on March 31, 2025, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company wanted to share marketing materials relatively close to a release window. His aim, as quoted in the report, was to create excitement while balancing it against “unmet anticipation.” He added: “I don’t always get it right, but that’s what we’re trying to do.”

That is an explanation of Take-Two’s marketing approach, not a statement that GTA VI lacked a date because it was behind schedule. The comments were attributed to Zelnick in a Bloomberg Television video; the original video was not independently available for confirmation.
GTA 6’s release date and platforms now
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists November 19, 2026, as the release date and names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. Take-Two repeated the date in its June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement. The announcement identifies the standard edition price as $79.99. That is the announced price for that edition, not a guarantee of current pricing at every retailer or in every region.

“Physical” does not necessarily mean a disc in the box. According to Rockstar Support’s pre-order details, the boxed version contains a download code and no disc. The code may have platform-account region restrictions, so check the support page’s regional redemption information before purchasing, especially if your account region differs from the retailer’s market.
