What happened at WNBA games?
The first reported incident in this sequence took place July 29, 2025, during the Atlanta Dream–Golden State Valkyries game, when a green sex toy was thrown onto the court. Further incidents were reported at games in Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix and elsewhere in early August. Some objects reached the playing area and disrupted games; others landed in crowds, creating risks for spectators as well as players and officials. Contemporary counts varied with the publication date: The Washington Post reported six known incidents on August 9, 2025, while the Chicago Sun-Times reported six on August 7. Those were news tallies at the time, not an official league count or a current total.
What did Green Dildo Coin have to do with it?
On August 7, 2025, ESPN reported that a crypto group claimed it had coordinated tosses to promote Green Dildo Coin, which the report said had launched July 28. The claimed promotion offers a possible explanation for at least some incidents, but public reporting cited here does not independently establish that the group carried out every toss. ESPN’s account attributes the coordination claim to the group; it is not a finding by the WNBA or law enforcement.

What could happen to someone who throws an object?
The WNBA said intentional object-throwers would be ejected and face a minimum one-year ban, as well as possible arrest and prosecution by local authorities. ESPN reproduced the league’s arena-security statement:
“In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”
