Fisker’s bulk sale of more than 3,000 Ocean SUVs to American Lease had already received bankruptcy-court approval in July 2024. The reported “speed bump” came in October, when American Lease said it had learned that information needed to operate the vehicles might not be transferable to a server outside Fisker. The buyer asked the bankruptcy court to delay a hearing and allow expedited discovery; the October 8, 2024 report did not say the court granted that request or that the sale approval was undone.
Why was the Fisker fleet sale in question?
Fisker was in Chapter 11 when it agreed to sell American Lease more than 3,000 Fisker Ocean SUVs. TechCrunch reported in July 2024 that the court approved the transaction for a maximum of $46.25 million. That figure was the reported cap on the sale value, not confirmation of the precise amount Fisker received. TechCrunch’s July 16 report also described spare-parts and software support as part of the sale context.

The October concern was different from the sale’s authorization or price: American Lease said the vehicles might depend on information held by Fisker that could not be moved to a new server. The buyer argued that it needed that information to keep the cars operating after Fisker was dissolved. In its emergency filing, American Lease’s lawyers said: “It is unclear at the present time what, if anything, Debtor representatives have known about the impossibility or impracticability of implementing Porting of the Purchased Vehicles, and when they learned or otherwise knew of that critical information.” This was the buyer’s assertion of uncertainty, not a finding that Fisker knew of a problem earlier.

What did American Lease say about the data transfer?
In a report published October 8, 2024, TechCrunch said American Lease’s filing described Fisker first raising the possibility of a transfer problem on October 4 at 8 p.m. ET, then later saying porting would not be possible. Those details are reported from the buyer’s filing; they do not establish an independent technical finding that transfer was impossible.

American Lease said it had already paid Fisker “tens of millions of dollars” under the purchase agreement. That is an approximate characterization attributed to the company’s filing, not a precise payment total. Its lawyers wrote: “[American Lease] cannot overstate the significance of this unwelcome news, conveyed to it only after it has paid [Fisker] tens of millions of dollars under the Purchase Agreement.” The statement was advocacy by one party to the bankruptcy dispute, rather than a court conclusion. TechCrunch’s October 8 report relayed the filing and the buyer’s account.
What did American Lease ask the bankruptcy court to do?
American Lease asked to postpone the upcoming confirmation hearing and sought expedited, targeted discovery into when Fisker learned of the potential porting problem. The October 8 report was published before the expected hearing, so it does not establish whether the judge granted the request. Nor does the reported objection show that the July approval of the fleet sale was reversed.

What happened after the October objection?
The case administrator’s docket page listed an October 11, 2024 confirmation/joint hearing and an October 17 plan effective date. Those entries establish scheduled and procedural milestones; they do not show that the Ocean information was successfully transferred or that this specific dispute was resolved. The public docket search also shows later claims-administration activity, including filings into September 2026. Ongoing estate administration is separate from proof of what happened to the vehicle-data issue. Fisker’s case docket page is the source for those calendar and case-status entries.
