Experian acquired Neuro-ID, Inc. to add behavioral signals—such as how a person types into and navigates an online form—to its fraud-prevention tools. Experian announced the deal on August 13, 2024; a later filing says the acquisition closed on August 12, 2024, for US$145 million in cash, representing 100% of Neuro-ID, Inc.

What NeuroID adds to Experian’s fraud tools

NeuroID’s technology analyzes digital behavior during online interactions. Experian describes signals such as how someone enters information, moves through a form, or returns to a site. It positions those signals as an additional layer alongside identity, device, and network information in fraud-prevention workflows.

That combination is intended to help businesses assess risk during account opening, logins, and transactions. It does not mean a behavioral signal alone establishes that someone is committing fraud: unusual behavior can have legitimate explanations, and Experian’s materials describe indicators for assessment rather than proof of wrongdoing. Experian’s acquisition announcement and its 2025 annual report describe the product and its examples.

Examples of behavior it may flag

Experian’s annual report lists copying and pasting information, switching between apps, completing a form unusually quickly, or making repeated corrections after delays as possible indicators of risk. It also describes checking whether a device is associated with multiple fraud attempts. These observations can inform a risk assessment, but none should be treated as a stand-alone verdict about an individual.

Why the acquisition followed an existing partnership

The deal was not Experian’s first step with NeuroID. On December 5, 2023, Experian said NeuroID’s behavioral analytics were already available through its fraud-prevention offerings, including CrossCore and Precise ID. The acquisition announcement came later, on August 13, 2024, and said NeuroID was available through CrossCore on Experian’s Ascend Technology Platform. Experian’s FY25 reporting subsequently described adding the capability to Ascend. The 2023 announcement establishes the pre-acquisition distribution relationship.

The sequence suggests Experian moved from distributing NeuroID’s technology through its existing products to owning the company and incorporating the capability into its platform. Experian framed the acquisition as a way to blend behavioral analytics with its broader data and fraud-prevention capabilities. In the announcement, Robert Boxberger, president of Experian’s North American Identity & Fraud business, said, “Our acquisition of NeuroID highlights our commitment to provide our clients with world-class data, analytics and insights to prevent fraud.”

Announcement date, closing date, and disclosed price

Experian publicly announced the acquisition on August 13, 2024. Its later acquisition disclosure records the closing date as August 12, 2024. The one-day difference is not a contradiction: one date is the public announcement and the other is the transaction closing date.

In a 2025 filing, Experian said it acquired 100% of Neuro-ID, Inc. for US$145 million in cash consideration. That figure is the consideration reported in Experian’s acquisition accounting disclosure, not a separate estimate of NeuroID’s value. Experian’s U.S. Notes Listing Particulars gives the ownership, closing date, and consideration.

What the deal does—and does not—show about fraud prevention

Experian’s stated rationale is that behavioral information can add context to other signals when a business evaluates an online interaction. The company’s December 2023 announcement described uses including identifying potential identity theft, fraud rings, and AI-enabled bots; those are company-described capabilities, not independently established results.

Experian also said its identity-verification and fraud-prevention solutions had helped avoid an estimated US$15 billion in global fraud losses in the prior year. That was Experian’s estimate for its solutions overall, not a NeuroID-specific result. The cited company materials do not establish a NeuroID-specific fraud-reduction rate, independent post-acquisition performance study, or post-integration customer adoption figure. They therefore support the product-fit explanation, but not a claim that the acquisition has been shown to reduce fraud by a measurable amount.
