Entrust Datacard became Entrust on September 14, 2020, when the company announced a new corporate name and brand identity. Entrust said the change reflected an expanded business in digital security, identity, payments and data protection as more interactions moved online—not a departure from its roots in physical card issuance.
Why did Entrust Datacard change its name?
Entrust said digital transformation—and the pandemic-era shift toward online interactions—made trust and security increasingly important for activities such as purchases, travel, government services and corporate network access. The company said its work had grown beyond issuing physical credentials to cover a broader range of digital security needs.

In the announcement, CEO Todd Wilkinson described the change as an evolution that honored the company’s heritage while emphasizing its role in securing identity, payments and data protection. Chief Marketing Officer Karen Kaukol likewise said enabling trust was the company’s mission and focus. Those statements explain the company’s rationale; the announcement does not establish an independently measured business or market effect from the rebrand.

The 2020 release also reported nearly $800 million in annual revenue and 2,500 employees, along with sales and service in more than 150 countries, 50 offices and a network of more than 1,000 technology and channel partners. These were company-reported figures at the time of the announcement, not current company metrics.
Did Datacard stop making card-issuance products?
No. Entrust said Datacard would remain the product-line name for high-volume card issuance, with continued investment in hardware, software, services and supplies. The corporate name changed; this announcement did not say the Datacard product line was discontinued.

What the rebrand does—and does not—tell customers
The announcement describes Entrust’s own explanation for the new identity: a business it said had broadened from physical credential issuance into digital security. It does not by itself show how the change affected sales, customer perceptions or market position. The scale and leadership language in the release should be understood as company statements from 2020, not independent rankings or present-day performance measures.

For customers looking for physical issuance supplies, the release confirms that Datacard supplies remained part of the product line. It does not identify a particular ribbon, printer model, compatibility match or current seller listing, so those details need to be checked against the specific printer and supply before buying.
