What is known about the reported layoffs
IGN reported on March 9, 2026, that layoffs affected an unknown number of employees across Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios. The report does not establish how many people lost their jobs, which roles were affected, or where they were based. IGN’s report is the source for the cuts and the named studios.

What EA said—and what it did not explain
IGN quoted EA as saying: “We’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community.” That is the company’s public characterization of the changes, not a detailed explanation of the decision. EA did not publicly specify in that statement whether the cuts were driven by financial performance, restructuring, the acquisition, or another factor. The available reporting also does not identify affected locations or job functions.
How strong was Battlefield 6’s launch?
EA said Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In an announcement published October 24, 2025, the company called it the franchise’s biggest opening and reported these launch-weekend figures:

These are EA’s company-reported figures, not independently verified totals. The announcement establishes that EA described the launch as a record for the franchise; it does not establish the financial results or internal decisions behind the later workforce changes. No. In a later community update, EA said teams across Battlefield Studios were working on plans beyond Season 5. That indicates ongoing work on the game, but the update does not explain how the reported layoffs affected particular projects or employees. It is possible for a company to continue a game’s development while changing staffing; the available statements do not reveal the reasoning or operational details behind that choice. What readers should not infer
