If your card statement shows “PayPal” and 402-935-7733, PayPal may have processed the purchase—even if the descriptor does not identify the store. Check your recent PayPal activity and compare the transaction date and amount. If the charge is missing from your account, guest checkout is one possible explanation; if you still cannot verify it, review authorized users and automatic payments before reporting it.
Why is PayPal on my credit card statement?
PayPal says a purchase made through its service may appear as “PayPal” with the phone number 402-935-7733. The number can also appear when a merchant uses PayPal to process a card payment. In either case, the statement descriptor may identify the processor rather than the store. PayPal advises checking your recent account activity to verify the transaction. Why might a merchant name appear instead?
The statement may show the business name the merchant configured, rather than “PayPal.” The format can depend on the payment method and the bank. PayPal also gives “PAYPALINST XFER” as a possible description for a bank-transfer payment and recommends checking PayPal History to confirm the purchase. What is 402-935-7733 on my statement?
It is a phone number PayPal says may accompany a PayPal purchase on a bank or credit card statement. Its presence can indicate that PayPal handled the payment, but it does not, by itself, identify the merchant or prove that the transaction is unauthorized. Match the charge against your account activity instead of relying on the descriptor alone.

Why can’t I find a PayPal charge in my account?
You may have checked out as a guest without signing in to PayPal. PayPal describes guest checkout as a card payment processed by PayPal when the buyer was not logged into a PayPal account, so the transaction may not appear in that account’s activity. If you have a problem with a transaction you cannot find, PayPal directs customers to its Resolution Center. See PayPal’s guidance for transactions missing from an account.
How to check an unfamiliar statement charge
- Compare the details. Check the statement date and amount against recent PayPal activity or History. A matching transaction can help identify the purchase even when the statement name differs.
- Consider guest checkout. If there is no matching transaction in your account, consider whether you paid by card without logging in.
- Check other explanations. Ask whether another authorized card or account user made the purchase, and review automatic payments for a recurring charge. PayPal recommends these checks before treating an unfamiliar transaction as unauthorized.
- Choose the right resolution path. Report a payment you did not authorize through PayPal’s Resolution Center. For a duplicate charge, PayPal advises contacting the recipient to request a refund; it also provides a Resolution Center path for identified billing issues.
How do I report an unauthorized PayPal transaction?
Report it through PayPal’s Resolution Center if, after checking account activity, automatic payments, and other authorized users, you still do not recognize or authorize the payment. PayPal says it will investigate reports of unauthorized activity. Follow the directions PayPal provides for your account and location; if you also need to dispute a card charge, follow your card issuer’s instructions. What to do about a duplicate or other billing problem
If you have identified a billing issue, report it through PayPal’s Resolution Center. For a duplicate charge, PayPal advises contacting the recipient to request a refund.
