MSKA & Associates, associated with BDO in India, resigned as Byju’s statutory auditor in September 2024, after insolvency proceedings began in July. It was the second auditor departure in the sequence reported: Deloitte Haskins & Sells had left in 2023. The auditor and Byju’s gave conflicting explanations for the later resignation, and those accounts should not be treated as findings by a court or regulator.
Why did Byju’s auditor resign?
Reuters reported that MSKA sought information to complete the audit for the financial year ended March 2023 and cited delays and inadequate support from management. In a resignation letter quoted by Reuters, BDO said: “We have reasons to believe that the management of the company lacks transparency with respect to providing full information to the auditor for their consideration and evaluation.” This was the auditor’s allegation, not an independently established finding. Reuters’ September 2024 report covered the departure and the competing accounts.
Byju’s disputed the circumstances. The company said the information requests came after insolvency proceedings had begun, when its board was suspended and could not provide the requested material. It also called for a forensic review. That was the company’s position, not a determination that the auditor’s concerns were unfounded. Reuters reported both sides’ statements.
How did the two auditor exits differ?
“Second auditor” refers to the order of departures described in reporting, not to two resignations within a precisely measured twelve-month interval. Deloitte left in 2023; MSKA resigned in September 2024. Their stated circumstances also differed.

| Auditor | Departure timing | Reported reason or context |
|---|---|---|
| Deloitte Haskins & Sells | 2023 | Reporting connected its departure to delays in receiving audited financial statements and concerns about reporting. The Economic Times’ timeline reported the earlier exit and the later resignation. |
| MSKA & Associates, associated with BDO | September 2024 | Reuters reported that MSKA cited delays and inadequate management support in obtaining information for the FY ended March 2023 audit. Byju’s said the requests followed the start of insolvency proceedings, when the board was suspended. Reuters’ account described the disagreement. |
What insolvency proceedings were underway?
The National Company Law Tribunal initiated insolvency proceedings in July 2024 following a petition by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over reported sponsorship arrears of ₹158 crore. The Economic Times reported the claim and the subsequent appellate and Supreme Court developments. This chronology describes the reporting at the time; it does not establish the case’s ultimate status today. The Economic Times’ case timeline recounts those stages.

The resignation establishes that MSKA left its statutory auditor role while Byju’s was in an insolvency process and that the parties publicly disagreed about access to audit information. The reports cited here do not resolve that dispute, establish wrongdoing, or supply a final judgment on the auditor’s claims. Nor does the reported sequence alone prove that Deloitte and MSKA departed for the same reason.
