Five former contestants filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in Los Angeles in September 2024, alleging they faced unlawful working conditions while filming Beast Games. The complaint accuses companies behind the Amazon Prime Video competition of wage violations, inadequate breaks and expense reimbursement, unsafe conditions, sexual harassment, and misleading promotion of the contestant count. The complaint was filed September 16, 2024, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. It names five former contestants as plaintiffs and identifies MrB2024 LLC, Amazon Alternative LLC, and Off One’s Base LLC as defendants. What do the contestants allege?
Unpaid work, breaks, and expenses
The plaintiffs say production controlled their activities while treating them as participants or volunteers rather than workers. They allege they were not paid minimum or overtime wages, did not receive legally required uninterrupted meal and rest periods, and that some contestants were not reimbursed for expenses. Safety and basic needs
The complaint alleges unsafe production conditions and inadequate provision of basic needs. Separate Associated Press coverage of contestant safety complaints described concerns including “limited sustenance” and “insufficient medical staffing.” Those reports provide context but do not independently prove each allegation in the lawsuit: Associated Press coverage.
Harassment and emotional distress
The suit alleges sexual harassment and failure to prevent harassment. It also asserts claims including negligent infliction of emotional distress, unfair business practices, and false advertising. The complaint’s allegations should not be treated as findings of misconduct.

The advertised contestant count
Amazon’s initial description of the show touted 1,000 contestants and a $5 million prize. The plaintiffs allege that 2,000 people initially competed and that contestants were later told the larger figure. They argue that the difference misrepresented their odds of winning. The contestant-count discrepancy is an allegation in the case, not a court-established finding. The figures were reported by TIME.
What have MrBeast and Amazon said?
When the complaint was filed, the Los Angeles Times reported that representatives for Amazon and MrBeast had not immediately responded to requests for comment. Later, The Independent reported footage in which Donaldson disputed some claims, including claims about broken bones and hush money. Does a separate company investigation resolve the lawsuit?
No. In November 2024, the Associated Press reported on a company-commissioned investigation into broader workplace allegations. The review found no proof of sexual misconduct allegations against MrBeast team members, according to the AP. That company-wide review is distinct from the contestants’ lawsuit and is not a court ruling on its claims.
