All 25 members of Annapurna Interactive’s team resigned in September 2024, the group said in a joint statement reported by Bloomberg. What happened at Annapurna Interactive?
Annapurna Interactive’s entire staff resigned in September 2024. In a joint statement, departing president Nathan Gary and the group said, “All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned.” They added, “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.” Bloomberg reported the resignations and reproduced the statement.
Why did the team leave?
Bloomberg reported that Gary and the team had been negotiating with Annapurna founder Megan Ellison to spin the video-game division off as an independent company. The talks failed, and Gary and the staff resigned. The account of those private discussions came from Bloomberg’s sources familiar with the negotiations, rather than from a publicly announced spin-off agreement.
What did Annapurna say about the transition?
Ellison told Bloomberg News: “Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition.” The contemporary report also said incoming president Hector Sanchez told developers that the company would honor existing contracts and replace departing staff. That account describes what developers were told at the time; it does not establish the present status of every contract or project.

What is Annapurna Interactive?
Annapurna Interactive’s official site identifies it as a division of Annapurna Pictures, established in 2016, that works with game creators to help create and release games. Its releases include What Remains of Edith Finch, Outer Wilds, Neon White, and Stray. The official Stray page describes the game as a third-person cat adventure developed by BlueTwelve Studio and provides a PlayStation purchase route.
