Animoca Brands reported US$280 million in bookings for the 12 months ended 31 December 2023, down from US$402 million in 2022. That is a US$122 million decrease, or about 30.3% by calculation. The company described the figures in its 10 July 2024 investor update as unaudited and non-IFRS; bookings are not the same as revenue, profit or cash generated.
How much did bookings fall?
| Fiscal year | Bookings reported by Animoca Brands | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | US$402 million | Non-IFRS bookings, as reported in the FY2023 investor update |
| 2023 | US$280 million | Non-IFRS bookings, described as unaudited in the FY2023 investor update |
| Change | Down US$122 million, or approximately 30.3% | Percentage calculated as (US$402 million − US$280 million) ÷ US$402 million |
The comparison covers the 12 months ended 31 December in each year. The approximately 30% headline describes the company’s bookings measure, not a reported decline in audited IFRS revenue, earnings or cash flow. Animoca Brands’ FY2023 investor update was published on 10 July 2024.
What Animoca Brands means by “bookings”
Animoca Brands defines bookings as a non-IFRS measure that combines revenue recorded on the income statement with deferred revenue. The company describes it as total sales activity. It is therefore a company-defined measure and should not be treated as interchangeable with revenue, profit or cash generated.
Deferred revenue is a balance-sheet liability: it represents payments received before the related service has been delivered. Animoca says this can apply to digital assets sold in games and applications when the company still has an obligation to provide future services. As those services are delivered, the deferred amount is recognized as revenue.

Why did Animoca say bookings fell?
Animoca attributed the decline mainly to slower economic activity across digital-asset markets and challenges facing crypto-related businesses after the FTX scandal, the collapse of Luna and TerraUSD, and related crypto-winter events. That is the company’s explanation in its investor update, not an independently established analysis of the causes.

FY2024 rebounded; FY2025 was lower
In its 5 March 2025 FY2024 update, Animoca reported US$314 million in bookings for 2024, compared with US$280 million for 2023. It assigned US$165 million to Digital Asset Advisory, US$110 million to Web3 operating businesses and US$39 million to investment activity. These are company-reported non-IFRS figures, so the comparison shows a reported annual rebound rather than an audited confirmation of the FY2023 bookings measure. The FY2024 investor update also repeats the company’s basic bookings definition.
Animoca’s 8 September 2026 FY2025 update reported US$173 million in FY2025 bookings and described its annual financial highlights as unaudited and non-IFRS. It also said the company had issued audited financial statements for FY2023 in July 2026. The official investor-relations index lists the FY2023 annual report as released on 17 July 2026. The report’s contents and any reconciliation to the US$280 million bookings figure are not established by those release notices, so the figure above remains attributed to the FY2023 investor update. Animoca Brands’ FY2025 update and its investor-relations index provide the later context.
