Why AMD Stock Fell After Record Q4 2025 Revenue

AMD’s Q4 revenue hit a record, but investors focused on the forward outlook and the mix behind Data Center growth, including MI308 sales to China.

AMD reported record Q4 2025 revenue, but its shares fell after the company released results on February 3, 2026. The results were strong; the concern described by contemporaneous market coverage was whether the outlook and underlying pace of AI-related growth could meet investors’ high expectations. AMD did not identify that reaction as the cause of a stock decline.

What AMD reported for Q4 and full-year 2025

AMD reported Q4 revenue of $10.270 billion, up 34% year over year and 11% sequentially. Full-year 2025 revenue was $34.639 billion, also up 34% year over year. AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su said the company had delivered record quarterly revenue of $10.3 billion and record free cash flow of $2.1 billion. AMD’s February 3, 2026 results release reports the rounded figures; its SEC-filed earnings presentation gives the detailed results.

AMD reported GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.92 and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $1.53. The two measures are not interchangeable: AMD says non-GAAP measures supplement, but do not replace or outrank, GAAP results.

Q4 2025 measure Reported result
Revenue $10.270 billion; up 34% year over year and 11% sequentially
GAAP gross margin 54%
Non-GAAP gross margin 57%
GAAP operating income $1.752 billion
Non-GAAP operating income $2.854 billion
GAAP diluted EPS $0.92
Non-GAAP diluted EPS $1.53

All figures in the table are AMD’s reported Q4 2025 results. The company also said that, excluding the impact of MI308 inventory and related reserve releases and sales to China, non-GAAP gross margin would have been about 55%. That qualification matters when judging the reported 57% margin: it included effects that AMD separately identified, rather than representing an unadjusted measure of underlying performance.

Why the AI-related growth drew scrutiny

Data Center revenue rose 39% year over year to $5.380 billion. The segment includes AMD’s data-center products, including AI accelerators, but its growth was not solely a measure of AI-chip demand. AMD said Q4 included approximately $390 million in MI308 GPU sales to China and the release of approximately $360 million in inventory and related charges.

Those disclosures help explain why investors looked beyond the segment’s headline growth rate. In next-day coverage, Kiplinger reported Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson’s interpretation that much of the Data Center increase came from China MI308 sales, implying more muted AI-silicon growth without that contribution. That is an analyst’s reading of the reported figures, not AMD’s stated explanation of the market reaction.

The other segments also grew year over year: Client and Gaming revenue was $3.940 billion, up 37%, while Embedded revenue was $950 million, up 3%. Kiplinger’s coverage is a secondary source for Bryson’s interpretation; AMD’s release and SEC-filed presentation are the source for segment results and MI308 disclosures.

What AMD forecast for Q1 2026

AMD’s February 3 outlook was approximately $9.8 billion in Q1 2026 revenue, plus or minus $300 million, including approximately $100 million in MI308 sales to China. The company projected non-GAAP gross margin of approximately 55%. This was guidance issued on February 3, not a report of actual Q1 results or a statement of AMD’s current outlook.

  • 16GB GDDR6 Memory on 128‑Bit Bus: Equipped with 16GB of high‑speed GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, offering ample capacity and bandwidth for modern game textures and creative applications.

At the midpoint, the revenue outlook represented an expected sequential decline of about 5%, while still implying year-over-year growth. AMD attributed the expected sequential decrease to seasonal declines in Client and Gaming and Embedded, partly offset by Data Center growth. Thus, the forecast was not a prediction of declines across all businesses: management expected Data Center revenue to rise sequentially.

Why AMD shares fell after the report

Contemporaneous coverage described AMD shares falling after earnings despite the record revenue and reported results above consensus estimates. InvestingLive and Yahoo Finance framed the reaction around investors’ expectations for stronger forward guidance and the view that the outlook did not exceed heightened expectations by enough. Those are market interpretations; the company’s financial statements establish what AMD reported, not a single reason investors sold.

  • 16GB GDDR6 on 256-Bit Bus: High-speed 20 Gbps memory provides exceptional bandwidth for 4K textures, ray tracing, and demanding workloads.

The apparent contradiction is therefore a matter of expectations and composition. A strong backward-looking quarter did not guarantee a positive share-price reaction if investors were focused on how much future growth the outlook implied, or how much of the Data Center increase reflected a contribution they might not expect to recur at the same level. AMD’s Q1 outlook still pointed to year-over-year revenue growth and sequential Data Center growth, but analysts and market coverage questioned whether the forward picture was strong enough relative to expectations.

For the immediate reaction and contemporaneous market framing, see InvestingLive’s February 3 report and Yahoo Finance’s coverage. The Q1 outlook is historical; readers assessing AMD today should use later company disclosures rather than treat this February forecast as current.
