Amazon India deleted its own campaign post featuring Swara Bhasker after online backlash and boycott calls were reported in April 2018. The Indian Express said the company’s official reason was unknown, so the timing does not establish that the backlash caused the deletion.
What happened
On April 19, 2018, actor Swara Bhasker posted a tweet as part of an Amazon campaign. The tweet described looking for a music system after moving to a new city and used the hashtags #AjnabiShaharKiGoogly and #ChonkpurCheetahs. The Indian Express reproduced her text:
“When I made the big move to a new city, all I wanted was a swanky music system, music being my passion! No matter how much I hunted for it, couldn’t find anything of my choice. In fact, I only got confused! #AjnabiShaharKiGoogly #ChonkpurCheetahs”
This was campaign copy reproduced by a news report, not an independently verified account of a purchase or a product review.

How the backlash unfolded
The Indian Express reported that Amazon India had retweeted or responded to Bhasker’s campaign tweet and later deleted its own post. The report described calls to boycott Amazon and remove its app, including the hashtags #BoycottAmazon and #UninstallAmazon, which were reported as trending. It also recorded people defending Bhasker’s anti-rape advocacy.
The objections were connected in the coverage to Bhasker’s earlier support for #JusticeForOurChild, in the context of the Kathua and Unnao cases. These were positions expressed by participants in the online discussion; the reports do not establish how representative they were of the public as a whole.

What is confirmed—and what remains uncertain
The contemporaneous reporting establishes the sequence it described: Bhasker’s campaign tweet, Amazon India’s engagement with it, reported online backlash and boycott calls, and the later deletion of Amazon’s own campaign post. The Indian Express explicitly said the official reason for deletion was unknown and that it had sought comment from Amazon. It did not confirm that the backlash prompted the company’s decision.
Scroll published a follow-up on April 23, 2018, attributing its account of the deletion to The Indian Express. It is corroborating coverage, not a fully independent account. Neither report supplies a measured total for boycott participation, the scale of the reaction, or any commercial impact.

What the story does—and does not—say about the music system
Bhasker’s tweet mentions a “music system,” but identifies no brand or model and offers no technical details. It does not support a product recommendation or a claim that she tested a particular system. The episode is about a campaign post and its removal, not a review or a buying guide.
