A delayed or rejected Kraken bank transfer usually comes down to a missing reference, incorrect or unsupported transfer details, an account-name mismatch, a bank or holiday processing delay, a limit, or a security review. Start by checking the transaction status in Kraken, then compare the bank receipt with the exact method, currency, recipient details, and reference shown on your signed-in funding page. If the transfer is still missing beyond the stated estimate, contact Kraken Support; if your bank rejected a withdrawal, check the saved details and ask the bank about its policy on transfers involving crypto exchanges.
What to check first when a Kraken transfer is missing
- Check the Kraken transaction status. Look for the deposit or withdrawal in your account. If there is no deposit status, the transfer may not yet have reached Kraken’s bank, or a missing reference may have prevented automatic assignment. For withdrawals, check the status and the bank information saved in Kraken. See Kraken’s guidance on deposits and withdrawals that have not arrived.
- Compare your receipt with the funding instructions. Confirm the recipient bank details, transfer method or payment rail, currency, and any required deposit reference. Use the current instructions in the signed-in funding page rather than relying on old transfer details or a general list of methods.
- Check the expected processing window. Timing varies by region, bank, payment rail, and holidays. Kraken describes its published times as estimates, not guaranteed arrival times. Allow the stated window to pass before treating an ordinary processing delay as a failure.
- Review account notices and limits. A hold can be different from a rejection and may require review. Follow any instructions shown in Kraken rather than sending another transfer to try to speed up the first one.
Why a deposit may be delayed, held, or returned
A required deposit reference is missing or misplaced
Some deposit methods require a reference so Kraken can match incoming funds to your account. If it is missing, Kraken may need to assign the deposit manually and ask you for proof that the funds came from your bank. Check the instructions for the specific method you used. If your bank has a reference field, use one that is transmitted to the recipient: banks may label it “Message to receiver,” “Reference,” “Originator to Beneficiary Information (OBI),” or “Remittance Information.” Some banks also offer internal-only notes that are not sent with the transfer; ask your bank which field reaches the recipient if you are unsure. Kraken explains the purpose of the reference in its deposit instructions.
The transfer used the wrong method or currency
A transfer must use the method and currency specified for the deposit. Kraken warns that a Fedwire transfer sent as ACH will fail; it says returning those funds to the sending bank may take up to 10 business days. That warning applies to this specific Fedwire/ACH mismatch, not to every transfer sent over the wrong rail. Sending a currency that does not match the selected deposit method can also result in a return and charges. Check the method and currency shown for your account before sending funds. The sending account name does not match
Kraken’s checklist says the sending bank account name must match the name on the Kraken account. A personal Kraken account should generally be funded from a personal bank account in the same name; business funds should go to a Kraken business account. A joint bank account may be used when one of its names matches the Kraken account. A deposit may be held if the sending institution’s name does not match the customer’s, even where a third-party payment processor may be accepted if the source of funds can be verified. The amount is outside a limit or looks duplicated
Your deposit must meet the method’s minimum and stay within the daily or monthly limits that apply to your account. Kraken says limits can depend on verification status, residence, transaction activity, account tenure, and asset, and can change; use the limit displayed for your account rather than assuming a universal threshold. Multiple deposits for the same amount within a 72-hour period may be flagged as possible duplicates. If you need to send several deposits, Kraken recommends using different amounts. A review or security hold is in progress
Kraken lists above-limit funding, a name mismatch, a bank-requested review for irregular activity, and certain security actions among possible reasons for a hold. Deposit-specific reasons include a missing reference, an unverified account, and repeated same-amount deposits within 72 hours. Some holds release automatically; others require manual review by Support. Kraken cautions that it may not be able to release a held deposit and the funds may need to be returned. The bank or a holiday is slowing processing
Bank processing and banking holidays can extend the time before a transfer appears. Kraken says processing times are estimates and outside its control. A missing deposit during the stated window does not, by itself, establish that Kraken rejected it. Check the estimate for the exact method and region on your funding page and allow for the bank’s processing schedule. Kraken’s deposit guidance discusses delays and processing windows.
How long a Kraken bank transfer may take
There is no single processing time for all Kraken bank transfers. Estimates depend on whether the transaction is a deposit or withdrawal, the country, currency, payment rail, bank, and any review. Kraken’s cash deposit options page, last updated October 1, 2026, listed these examples:

The destination details or account ownership are wrong
Compare the saved bank details in Kraken with the destination account’s current information, including the account holder name. Kraken says withdrawals to a third-party processor, brokerage, or another account not in your name are unsupported and may be rejected or returned. Verify the recipient before submitting another withdrawal.

The bank does not accept transfers involving crypto exchanges
A bank may refuse transfers associated with crypto exchanges. Ask the bank whether its policy permits the transfer and whether it has blocked or returned the payment. Kraken also says some rejected destinations may be blocked on its system to prevent repeated failed transfers. Its withdrawal error guidance covers destination restrictions and transfer details.

When to contact Kraken Support or your bank
- Contact Kraken Support about a deposit if it still has no status or has not arrived after you checked the reference, receipt, currency, method, holidays, and stated processing window. Include the transfer details and any requested proof of origin.
- Contact your bank about a rejected withdrawal to confirm the saved destination details are valid and ask whether it accepts transfers involving crypto exchanges.
- Do not contact Kraken’s funding provider or payment processor directly. Kraken warns this can cause additional delays. Follow Kraken’s account notices and Support instructions instead. See Kraken’s delayed-transfer guidance.
