A 1990 Ferrari F40 was scheduled for a public sale in a California bankruptcy case—not seized by federal law enforcement. The court notice set a proposed price of $2,555,000 and named August 12, 2025, as the sale date. The records available here do not establish whether the car ultimately sold or for how much.
Why was the Ferrari F40 headed to court?
The car was listed as property of the bankruptcy estate of Santa Paula Hay & Grain and Ranches, a company that filed for Chapter 11 protection. The case, number 9:25-bk-10314-RC, was before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, Northern Division. This was a court-supervised disposition of estate property—not a forfeiture or government seizure.
The vehicle identified in the court notice was a 1990 Ferrari F40, VIN ZFFMN34A9L0086230, assembly number 03112. The notice scheduled a public sale for August 12, 2025, at 1 p.m. in Courtroom 201, 1415 State Street, Santa Barbara. Court sale notice
What price and bidding terms were proposed?
The $2,555,000 stalking-horse bid
The court materials identified RM Auctions Inc., doing business as RM Sotheby’s, as the proposed stalking-horse bidder at $2,555,000, subject to public overbidding. A stalking-horse bid is a baseline offer intended to establish terms and a minimum starting point for competing bids; it does not prove that the bidder ultimately bought the asset. The proposed purchase had no financing contingency, according to the hearing report. July hearing report Court sale notice

The separate $5 million proposal
A July hearing report discussed the debtor’s request for approval of a $5,000,000 buy-it-now option, and the broker’s listing also advertised that amount. It was a proposed option, not a confirmed sale price. The July report also noted conflicting proposed hearing dates of August 12 and August 19 in the papers; the court sale notice itself listed the public sale for August 12. The notice said the property would be sold “as is where is without representation or warranty of any kind or nature whether express or implied.” That condition matters: the proposed price should not be read as a guarantee about the car’s condition or as a completed transaction.

Was the Ferrari sold, and how much did it sell for?
The records cited here do not establish the final disposition of this exact VIN. They document the proposed transaction and scheduled sale, but do not verify a winning bidder or final price. Accordingly, neither the $2,555,000 stalking-horse amount nor the proposed $5,000,000 buy-it-now figure can be reported as the car’s completed sale price. Court sale notice July hearing report
A later F40 result is not an answer to that question: Classic.com reports that a different 1990 F40, VIN ZFFMN34A4L0087219, sold for $3,800,000 at Broad Arrow’s Amelia auction on March 6, 2026. That is a separate car, and differences in provenance, condition, specification, originality, and sale terms make it unsuitable as a direct valuation or evidence of the bankruptcy car’s outcome. For a meaningful comparison with another F40, identify the VIN and chassis, market specification, mileage and condition documentation, originality or modifications, provenance, venue and date, and whether a quoted figure is an estimate, proposed bid, hammer price, or a total including buyer’s premium. A stalking-horse offer in a bankruptcy sale is not equivalent to a completed auction result.
