Who won CIO50 Australia 2024?
CIO Australia reported the results on 18 October 2024, after a ceremony held in Sydney on 17 October. The top three honourees were:
- No. 1: Kurt Brissett, chief technology and innovation officer at Transport for NSW.
- No. 2: Nicola Dorling, group chief information officer at Downer.
- No. 3: Gary Adler, chief digital officer at MinterEllison.
CIO Australia said Brissett led delivery of a portfolio of capital technology and digital initiatives worth AU$1bn, connected with investment in New South Wales transport infrastructure. Nicola Dorling: operating-model change and AI
CIO Australia highlighted Dorling’s restructuring of Downer’s IT operating model and the use of AI-driven innovation to improve safety analysis and fault detection.
Gary Adler: automation and digital learning
Adler’s highlighted initiatives at MinterEllison included an automation centre of excellence, the MinterEllison Digital Academy, and Mintcoin, an internal cryptocurrency intended to encourage participation in digital learning and innovation programs.

What does CIO50 recognise?
CIO Australia describes CIO50 as recognition for senior technology and digital executives in Australia who drive innovation and rapid change, develop strong cultures and influence leadership teams. The program also recognises teams through its Team of the Year categories and emerging leaders through Next CIO, an award the publisher describes as recognising rising ICT leaders on a path to senior leadership. The publisher called the 2024 program its ninth year in its 2024 nominations announcement.
