William Joseph McGinley, founder of Methode Electronics and its chairman and chief executive, died on January 22, 2001, at age 77, according to a contemporaneous EDN report and SEC filing details cited by EDN. The report said he had founded the company in 1946 with $1,000 in capital.

When did McGinley die?
EDN reported that McGinley died on Monday at age 77. The SEC filing cited in that report gives the date as January 22, 2001. Three days earlier, he had been inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
EDN also reported that a private memorial service was planned for January 25, 2001, at the Chapel at Ocean Reef in Key Largo, Florida; the report announced the plan but does not confirm whether it took place as scheduled. It did not state a cause of death.
