That is Raney’s account of the show’s funding approach—not a promise that Discovery pays every expense on every rescue. Neither his personal pay nor the Raney family’s compensation split has been publicly established in the sources reviewed.
Who pays for improvements on Homestead Rescue?
In a 2016 interview with Andy Dehnart, updated in 2020, Marty Raney said Discovery made budget available for “significant improvements to a homestead” when he convinced the network that particular projects were necessary. His description points to Discovery as a source of project funding for work featured on the show, but it does not provide a budget or a complete account of who pays each cost.

Raney also said the team was expected to look for materials already on the property and reuse them where possible to save money. That describes a cost-conscious approach; it does not establish that salvaged materials covered all needs or that outside spending was unnecessary. Read Dehnart’s interview with Marty Raney.

- Supported: Raney said Discovery made a budget available for significant improvements after he justified the projects.
- Supported: Reusing materials found on the homestead was part of the team’s approach to saving money.
- Not established: The interview does not give a dollar amount, a line-item production budget, or a rule that applies to every rescue and season.
- Not established: It does not specify whether homeowners, local businesses, donors, Raw Productions, or other parties contribute to any particular project.
So the careful answer is that Discovery budgeted for significant on-show improvements according to Raney, while the available account is not a universal financing breakdown. It would overstate the evidence to say the network necessarily pays every expense on every episode.

How much does Marty Raney earn from the show?
No reliable public figure for Marty Raney’s per-episode fee, annual pay, or contract terms appears in the sources reviewed. Nor is there a documented split of compensation among Marty, Matt, and Misty Raney. A September 2026 secondary article likewise says official sources have not disclosed those figures and notes that online estimates conflict. Treat specific salary or net-worth numbers circulating online as unverified, not confirmed income. DocumentaryTube’s compensation overview is secondary reporting, not an official pay disclosure.
Is the Raneys’ cabin rebuild part of the show’s rescue budget?
Discovery separately documented the Raney family rebuilding a new cabin for Marty and Mollee after a fire. That feature does not state how the personal family project was funded, so it should not be treated as evidence of the financing arrangement for an on-show homestead rescue—or vice versa. Discovery’s account of the Raney family cabin rebuild is distinct from its show page, which describes Marty, Matt, and Misty helping people pursue off-grid living with building, farming, and hunting skills.

What to take away from the available figures
Numbers associated with production anecdotes should not be mistaken for project budgets or cast earnings. In Dehnart’s interview, Raney recalled 36 inches of snow on the first day of filming and described one shoot as lasting 100 days straight. Those are his accounts of filming conditions and duration, not financial figures. The sources reviewed publish no reliable total renovation cost or cast salary amount.
