In its last located quarterly holdings report, Ripple reported 4,562,433,147 XRP held and another 37,130,000,005 XRP subject to on-ledger escrow, both as of March 31, 2025. Those are dated figures—not current October 2026 balances—and escrowed XRP is not immediately available to Ripple. No verified current ranking establishes which individual owns the most XRP.
What does “owns the most XRP” mean?
The answer depends on whether you mean a company’s disclosed holdings, XRP controlled through escrow, the operator of a wallet address, or the person who ultimately benefits from assets in that wallet. These are different measures. A public address ranking cannot by itself establish who beneficially owns the XRP it contains.
XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger. Ripple is a privately owned company; owning shares in Ripple is not the same as owning XRP. Ripple says it is “a privately-owned company governed by a Board of Directors” in its FAQ.
What XRP holdings has Ripple disclosed?
Ripple’s Q1 2025 XRP Markets Report gave the following snapshot as of March 31, 2025:

These figures come from Ripple’s Q1 2025 XRP Markets Report. Ripple said the report series would be sunset in its existing form starting with Q2 2025, while information about its holdings would continue to be available through the company website. The report is the last located quarterly snapshot here, so the figures should not be presented as live balances.
Why escrow is not the same as liquid holdings
Ripple says it cannot access escrowed XRP until it is released to the company monthly; XRP not used after release is returned to escrow. Therefore, adding the escrow total to the company-held total and describing the sum as XRP Ripple can sell immediately would misstate the distinction.

An NYSE Arca proposal filed with the SEC recounts that Ripple had an allocation of 80 billion XRP and placed 55 billion XRP into escrow by the end of 2017. It describes successive 1-billion-XRP contracts scheduled to release monthly beginning in January 2018, with unused XRP returned to a future escrow account. The proposal also cited approximately 38 billion XRP in escrow for its filing period; that is a historical approximation, not a current balance.
Do wallet rankings show the largest XRP owners?
Not reliably. A rich list ranks ledger addresses, not verified people or beneficial owners. Some explorers label addresses as belonging to Ripple, Binance, Uphold, or other entities, but a label is an attribution to an address operator—not proof that one person owns the entire balance.

- Exchange wallets: A centralized exchange may hold pooled XRP for many customers. The exchange may operate the address without being the beneficial owner of all assets recorded there.
- Unlabeled addresses: A large balance does not identify the person or organization behind an address.
- Dynamic rankings: Live pages change as ledger balances and labels change. Bithomp’s XRP distribution page can help discover ranked addresses and labels, but a balance quoted from it needs a capture time. Its displayed data can also be stale or anomalous.
A 2026 SEC-filed XRP fund report states that the largest 100 XRP wallets held approximately 83% of circulating XRP as of December 31, 2025. That is a dated wallet-concentration statistic, not evidence that 100 identified people own those balances. The figure and date are reported in the SEC-filed 2026 Form 10-K.
A third-party XRPL.to rich list also presents estimated categories for Ripple, escrow, and exchanges. Those estimates are not primary-source ownership disclosures and should not be treated as definitive totals.

Can we identify the largest individual XRP holder?
No verified current individual ranking is established by the sources cited here. The SEC-filed report says founders initially retained 20 billion XRP collectively and nearly 80 billion were initially provided to Ripple Labs. It also says claims that founders including Chris Larsen and Jed McCaleb still hold large quantities are believed but not officially confirmed. That qualification is not enough to name either person as today’s largest individual holder or assign a precise personal balance.
In particular, a wallet attributed to a founder, exchange, or company does not prove that the named party beneficially owns every XRP in that address. Without verified ownership evidence, social-media or video claims about a specific person’s current balance should not be treated as fact.

How to read XRP ownership claims
- Check whether the claim is about XRP held by a company, escrow under its control, an address operator, or a beneficial owner.
- For a balance or concentration percentage, keep the reporting date attached; ledger data and disclosed holdings can change.
- Look for a primary disclosure before treating an address label or a claimed personal balance as confirmed ownership.
- Do not treat XRP escrowed for scheduled release as immediately available company holdings.
