Ethical Capital Partners (ECP) acquired the company in March 2023, and Aylo announced its new name that August. Aylo’s portfolio includes Pornhub and YouPorn; the U.S. Federal Trade Commission identifies RedTube as another of its free, ad-supported upload-enabled sites. The public announcement names ECP as the buyer, but the sources cited here do not disclose the purchase price or establish every ultimate beneficial owner.
What happened to MindGeek?
MindGeek was launched in 2004, according to Aylo’s August 17, 2023 announcement. ECP acquired it in March 2023; the company then adopted the Aylo name. So MindGeek is the former corporate identity, while Aylo is the name the company uses now.
Aylo described the rebrand as a fresh start and said it aimed for its name to stand for innovation, diverse and inclusive adult content, trust, and safety. Those are the company’s stated goals, not independent findings about its performance.
What is publicly known about the owner?
Aylo’s announcement names ECP as its acquirer. It does not state the transaction price, explain how the purchase was financed, or provide a complete list of ECP’s ultimate beneficial owners. The available public account therefore establishes the named buyer, but not every detail behind the ownership structure.

Which websites does Aylo own?
Aylo names Pornhub, YouPorn, Brazzers, Men.com, Trans Angels, and Nutaku among its properties. In a September 2025 release, the FTC described Aylo as operating more than 100 pornographic photo and video-streaming websites. The agency listed free, ad-supported upload-enabled sites including Pornhub, YouPorn, and RedTube, as well as paid services such as Pornhub Premium. The “more than 100” figure is the FTC’s description in that release, not an independently audited count presented here.
The portfolio spans different business models: the FTC distinguishes free ad-supported sites from paid subscriptions. Its release identifies RedTube as part of the free-site group; it does not identify RedTube as a paid service.

What do the official legal and privacy records say?
Three significant records concern different conduct and have different legal status. The December 2023 U.S. Department of Justice resolution was a deferred prosecution agreement with admissions and obligations. The February 2024 Canadian privacy report described findings from a regulator’s investigation and its recommendations. The September 2025 U.S. complaint set out agency allegations; the cited release does not establish that those allegations were ultimately adjudicated.

What safety changes and operating figures has Aylo reported?
In a March 2024 statement, Aylo said that from January 23, 2024, new content on the Pornhub network featuring a new co-performer required IDs and signed release agreements to be submitted before publication. The company also said it published transparency reports twice a year. These are dated company descriptions of its processes; they do not establish that violations have ceased.

That same statement reported the following figures. Each is an Aylo-reported figure, not an independently audited measure in the cited statement:
- More than 130 million daily average visitors.
- More than 5.2 million pieces of content in the Pornhub library.
- More than 36,000 banned search terms.
- More than 70 non-governmental organizations engaged with.
- 59 trusted flaggers across 37 countries.
- More than 1,400 employees.
Aylo also named relationships with Pineapple Support, Stop NCII, Crime Stoppers International, The Cupcake Girls, SWOP Behind Bars, and the Free Speech Coalition. Those company-reported relationships are not, by themselves, evidence that the organizations endorsed Aylo’s practices or that violations have stopped.

What should readers take from the name change?
The ownership and identity facts are straightforward: ECP acquired MindGeek in March 2023, and the business announced the Aylo name in August of that year. The accountability picture requires more care. The DOJ agreement, Canadian privacy findings, and FTC–Utah complaint are distinct records, not interchangeable proof of the same legal outcome. Aylo’s later statements describe steps and statistics the company says it has adopted or achieved; they do not erase the earlier records or independently verify the company’s performance.
