Who owns Ipswich Town?
Companies House lists Gamechanger Holdings Ltd as the active person with significant control (PSC) of Ipswich Town Football Club Company Limited. Its notice, dated 3 June 2026, records that Gamechanger Holdings holds 75% or more of the club company’s shares and voting rights and has the right to appoint or remove directors. The same register marks Gamechanger20 Limited as ceased on that date. Companies House cautions that it does not check the accuracy of information filed, so this is the formal filed record, not an independent audit of the club’s ownership.
The ownership structure has changed over time. BBC Sport reported on 3 December 2025 that Portman Holdings LLC became the majority shareholder following fresh investments by the Three Lions fund and Clara Vista Partners, with ORG remaining in the ownership group. At that point, Gamechanger 20 was still listed as the club’s owner, and Ed Sheeran was reported to retain a 1.4% minority stake. That report describes the position then; it should not be substituted for the later Companies House PSC notice.
How did the owners’ money enter the club?
The 2021 takeover
BBC Sport reported that ORG formed Gamechanger 20 in April 2021 to buy a 90% stake in Ipswich Town from previous owner Marcus Evans. The Guardian reported the takeover was worth about £40 million. That figure is the reported value of a club transaction in 2021, not a measure of any investor’s personal wealth.

ORG’s stated investment approach
In a TWTD interview published on 8 November 2021, ORG chief executive Ed Schwartz said the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System held a 90% stake in Gamechanger 20 at that time, and that ORG managed funds on its behalf. He described the club investment as a commercial decision: “We’re not taking that approach, we’re taking a very pragmatic, return-on-investment approach.”
Schwartz also explained the appeal of Ipswich as an investment: “In the UK, in English football, you have to make sure you get the management right and our view was that you buy something on a lower value basis, one that has potential, one that has history and Ipswich was really the perfect scenario for us.” These are Schwartz’s descriptions of ORG’s fund arrangement and investment thesis; they do not provide a detailed account of how each investor made their personal fortune.

The 2024 investment
BBC Sport reported in March 2024 that a US equity company agreed to buy a 40% stake for up to £105 million, with the investment intended to support the club and its infrastructure. This was a later, separate transaction from the 2021 takeover. The reported amount describes the investment for a stake, not any individual’s net worth.

The available public record cited here does not establish current personal net worth figures or a full personal wealth history for the named investors, including Ed Schwartz, Brett Johnson, Berke Bakay and Mark Detmer. It documents corporate control, reported club investments and Schwartz’s account of ORG’s role. Those facts do not show how much any individual is personally worth or how that person accumulated their wealth.

That distinction matters because a purchase price, a stake in a club, and a fund’s relationship with an institutional investor each describe different things. The approximately £40 million reported for the 2021 takeover and the up-to-£105 million reported for the 2024 investment are dated club transaction figures. Neither can be converted into the personal fortune of a club owner or partner.

How to read the ownership figures
- Current control: Companies House’s 3 June 2026 PSC notice names Gamechanger Holdings Ltd and records its control rights in the club company.
- Earlier ownership reporting: BBC Sport’s 3 December 2025 report describes the investment group and reported minority stake at that time, before the later PSC filing.
- Investment amounts: The 2021 and 2024 figures refer to separate club transactions reported in different years, not personal net worth estimates.
- Wealth claims: A corporate stake or fund arrangement is not an individual balance sheet. The cited record does not provide reliable, dated personal net worth statistics for the investors.
