What is Vantage Studios?
Ubisoft announced Vantage Studios on October 1, 2025, as the organization responsible for developing and expanding Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. At launch, Vantage brought together teams working on those franchises in Montréal, Québec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia. Ubisoft described the structure as combining shared services and technical resources with more direct control for developers over the games they build. Vantage is part of Ubisoft’s “Creative Houses” operating model. Ubisoft describes its first Creative House as guided by autonomy, focus, and player centricity, with the aim of strengthening creative vision, efficiency, and accountability. Who owns and controls Vantage Studios?
Ubisoft remains in control. Tencent’s investment closed on November 21, 2025, giving Tencent a 26.32% economic interest in Vantage. Ubisoft said Vantage remains exclusively controlled and consolidated by Ubisoft, so Tencent should be described as a minority investor—not as the operator or controlling owner of the studio or its franchises. What were the investment terms?
Ubisoft’s closing announcement reported that Tencent invested €1.16 billion in cash for its 26.32% economic interest. Did Tencent acquire the franchises’ film and TV rights?
No immediate transfer of audiovisual rights is established by the investment announcement. A separate November 21, 2025 disclosure described a call option concerning Ubisoft’s audiovisual and transmedia business for the three franchises, including possible film, television, and location-based entertainment uses. Vantage may exercise the option during a 30-day period beginning on each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth anniversaries of the investment’s completion; Tencent may exercise on Vantage’s behalf if Vantage does not. The disclosed price is the higher of operating net costs incurred since completion or €1. The option describes a possible later transaction, not rights already transferred when Tencent invested. What this structure means for players
For players, the practical change announced by Ubisoft is organizational: development and expansion of the three franchises sit within Vantage, while the company says it will supply shared services and technology and give developers more direct control over the games they build. Ubisoft’s stated goals do not establish how a particular future release will be made, what it will contain, or whether it will perform better. The investment terms likewise describe ownership and economics, not creative control by Tencent.
