Wish was founded in 2010 by Peter Szulczewski and Danny Zhang. The company’s official Help Center says they met while attending the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Who founded Wish?
Wish’s founders are Peter Szulczewski and Danny Zhang. Wish identifies both as co-founders in 2010. A 2020 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing independently identifies Szulczewski as the company’s founder and CEO from July 2010, while Wish’s 2021 announcement also describes him as its founder.

How did the founders meet?
Wish’s official Help Center says Szulczewski and Zhang met while attending the University of Waterloo in Canada. The available account establishes their university connection, but does not provide further detail about when or how they decided to start the company. Wish Help Center: Who founded Wish?

What was Wish created to do?
In his founder letter in Wish’s 2020 SEC registration statement, Szulczewski described the goal as helping consumers underserved by existing e-commerce offerings. The filing presents Wish as a mobile-first, personalized shopping platform built around product discovery, intended to connect consumers with merchants and manufacturers.
That account explains the company’s stated founding purpose; it does not establish that every purchase on the platform was inexpensive, reliable, or suitable for every shopper. Wish’s 2020 SEC registration statement

Who owns Wish now?
The founders’ role in creating Wish is distinct from later ownership of its operating business. ContextLogic announced that it completed the sale of substantially all operating assets associated with Wish to Qoo10 on April 19, 2024. Its 2024 annual filing also records that the Wish platform and related operating assets were sold and the transaction completed on that date.
ContextLogic reported approximately $161 million in cash consideration after purchase-price adjustments. That amount describes the asset sale, not the founders’ personal wealth or Wish’s value when it was founded. ContextLogic’s sale announcement and its 2024 Form 10-K
