Universal Music Japan’s band page lists Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett and Trujillo as the lineup and reports 125 million album sales and more than 25 billion streams worldwide. The page does not date those totals, so they should not be read as figures measured as of a particular year—or as money received by a specific member.
A different kind of figure illustrates the distinction: Forbes’ 2005 earnings list estimated Metallica’s entertainment earnings at $37.4 million for June 2004 through June 2005, based on industry sources. That is a historical estimate for the act, not an individual member’s net worth or a current income figure.
