In September 2020, it announced a $36.8 million (£28 million) Series B led by Long Ridge Equity Partners to develop its products and expand internationally. The funding round is historical: Ripjar has since reported further investment and a change in chief executive.
What does Ripjar do?
Ripjar sells software to financial institutions, businesses, and government users—not a consumer finance app. The company says it was founded in 2013 by five former Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) employees and is headquartered in Cheltenham. That origin is company history, not evidence that Ripjar is part of, or endorsed by, GCHQ. Ripjar’s About page
In 2020, the company described its Labyrinth platform as combining automation, artificial intelligence, and data visualisation to help identify threats such as money laundering, fraud, and terrorism. Ripjar said the technology could help reduce false positives; that is a company claim, not an independently verified performance result. Ripjar’s 2020 funding announcement
What did Ripjar announce in 2020?
Ripjar’s announcement, published on 24 September 2020 with a London, 16 September dateline, said the company had raised $36.8 million (£28 million) in a Series B. Long Ridge Equity Partners led the round; Ripjar also named Winton Capital Ltd. and Accenture plc as existing investors. The company said the round brought total investment raised to more than $60 million. Ripjar’s 2020 announcement
#1 Best Overall
The stated purpose was to accelerate product development, expand Labyrinth, grow sales and marketing in Asia, North America, and Europe, and add staff to support clients. Ripjar reported more than 20,000 users globally at the time; that figure refers to users, not customers. Ripjar, 24 September 2020
How has Ripjar changed since the Series B?
The 2020 round should not be confused with later transactions. In November 2024, Ripjar announced a majority growth investment from Long Ridge and said Tom Obermaier would become CEO, succeeding co-founders Jeremy Annis and Tom Griffin. Dow Jones separately announced in November 2024 that it had expanded its minority stake in Ripjar. Ripjar’s 2024 announcement · Dow Jones announcement
On 20 May 2026, Ripjar reported an additional primary investment from Long Ridge but did not state the amount. The company said it served more than 300 businesses, including more than 20 tier-one banks, and that annual recurring revenue had grown 40% over the preceding 12 months. These are Ripjar-reported figures. Ripjar, 20 May 2026
Its About page, accessed 8 October 2026, says the company serves more than 400 organisations. That wording and date differ from May’s “businesses” count, so the figures should not be treated as a directly comparable time series. Ripjar About page
What products does Ripjar offer now?
Ripjar’s current product page names three products and describes ULTRA as the engine underpinning the suite. These are the company’s descriptions, not an independent product assessment. Ripjar products
- Ripjar Screening: customer screening across sanctions, politically exposed persons (PEPs), watchlists, and adverse media.
- Screening Assistant: AI-supported alert handling and audit trails.
- Ripjar Labyrinth: investigation of threats across structured and unstructured information.
In a 24 September 2026 announcement, Ripjar said ULTRA processes more than 10 billion historic articles and over 5 million new articles per day across more than 150 languages. The company also reported that its technology was used by 25% of Global Systemically Important Banks and more than 35 Fortune 500 companies. These are company-reported scale and adoption figures, not independently audited figures in the cited announcement. Ripjar, 24 September 2026
Rank #4
Ripjar Chief Product Officer Conrad Nicholas described ULTRA’s architecture as “one engine” running multiple AI layers for removing duplicate content, resolving mentions into entity profiles, and attributing risk. This is the company’s description of its own technology. Ripjar, 24 September 2026

A company’s feature list does not establish how well a screening system will perform in a particular compliance operation. An organization evaluating Ripjar or another provider can use these criteria to define its requirements and request evidence:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Coverage: Confirm which sanctions lists, PEP sources, watchlists, and adverse-media sources are included, how often they are updated, and what geographic or language gaps apply.
- Matching and entity resolution: Ask how the system handles name variants, transliteration, duplicate records, and links between people or entities.
- Alert operations: Review false-positive handling, case workflows, audit trails, explainability, and controls for human review.
- Integration and data: Establish what data the organization must supply, which systems can connect, and what implementation work is required.
- Deployment and support: Clarify deployment options, service terms, training, and ongoing support for the relevant jurisdictions and teams.
- Evidence of outcomes: Request customer-specific or independently validated results under conditions comparable to the organization’s own use case.
Ripjar’s published pages describe several of these capabilities, but the cited sources do not provide a neutral, like-for-like ranking against named competitors. Its homepage also presents outcome figures such as 91% fewer false positives, an 85% reduction in process time, and a 500% increase in screening coverage; these are deployment claims from Ripjar, not results established for every customer or independently verified in the cited material.
