Jamie Dimon is the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of JPMorgan Chase & Co. He became CEO on January 1, 2006, and chairman of the board in 2007. The company’s 2026 proxy statement confirms he continues to hold both roles.

What is Jamie Dimon’s role at JPMorgan Chase?

Dimon leads JPMorgan Chase & Co. as both chairman of the board and CEO. The company’s leadership biography gives his start as CEO as January 1, 2006, and says he became chairman one year later. Its 2026 proxy statement also describes him as the firm’s ongoing chairman and CEO.

JPMorgan Chase’s scale is distinct from Dimon’s personal finances: the company reported $4.9 trillion in assets and $364 billion in stockholders’ equity as of March 31, 2026. Those are company figures, not measures of Dimon’s individual wealth or performance.

How did Jamie Dimon reach the role?

Before leading JPMorgan Chase, Dimon held executive positions at American Express, Commercial Credit, Travelers, Smith Barney and Citigroup, according to the company biography. He joined Bank One as chairman and CEO in 2000. When Bank One merged with JPMorgan Chase on July 1, 2004, he became JPMorgan Chase’s president and chief operating officer.

Dimon earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, the company biography says.

When is Jamie Dimon retiring?

JPMorgan Chase has not announced a definite date for Dimon to leave as CEO, and the company announcements reviewed do not name a successor to him. In a 2026 company update, Dimon described his timeline conditionally: “I’m here for a few years as CEO and maybe few after that as Executive Chairman and Chairman, depending on whatever the board wants me to do, whatever makes sense for the company.” That statement gives no fixed retirement date; it also leaves any future role subject to the board.

The company has announced other senior leadership changes as part of succession planning, but those moves do not establish who will succeed Dimon as CEO. In January 2025, JPMorgan Chase said Daniel Pinto planned to retire at the end of 2026 and named Jennifer Piepszak chief operating officer. In 2026, it named Doug Petno and Troy Rohrbaugh co-presidents and described the appointments as part of developing senior leaders.

What has Dimon said publicly about current challenges?

In his shareholder letter in JPMorgan Chase’s 2025 annual report, released in April 2026, Dimon wrote, “The challenges we all face are significant.” The sentence is his characterization in a shareholder letter, rather than an independent finding.

Dimon also published “From the desk of Jamie Dimon: Policy matters” on May 4, 2026. It is an example of his policy commentary; its arguments should be understood as his views.
